Was on E-bay ...... Now in a Classic Car Garage

#1 Post by Dolly Bird » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:28 am

This Dolly 1500HL was originally for sale at Beaulieu back in May for £695, it then appeared on E-bay a couple of times and eventually sold for £495. It's now for sale at a garage in Alton for considerably more!
Their workshop has also got a Dolly up on ramps:

..... and just in case you are interested in any of their other cars (including a TR7 with a V8!).
Dunno about that Jon, 995 for a TR7 V8 with MOT doesn't seem at all bad to me. In fact I'd go so far as to say it's a good job it's not closer to me.

All-aggro

I will probably be strung up for saying so, but I quite fancy an Allegro. But why oh why are all the low mileage ones in crappy colours like hearing aid beige?
Mind you I wouldn't get a plastic fantastic Mk3 anyway.
The Dolly's not a bad price really for a dealer, it must have been a bargain on the Bay.

Before I got my own car, at the age of 17, I used to borrow my mum's beige 1300 allegro.

It was actually a bit of a laugh, drove ok when the suspension worked and I even had it up to an indicated 95mph!

But its the usual BL story, good concept, bad execution. Everytime you closed the bonnet by gravity, the headlamp bulbs would shatter, and if you jacked it up with the doors open, the back window would pop out! Hilarious!

I've said it before...

and I'll say it again...
The Allagro was that rare thing in the automotive world...a car that was inferior in every respect to the one it was meant to replace...
Shame they aslo produced the Morona to make it look vaguely competetive...
Yes but....

#10 Post by Jon Tilson » Wed Aug 30, 2006 11:41 am

I would agree but some would say that at least the TR7 would go round corners....
(The fact it had insufficient power to tax its chassis is of course the reason. We all know a TR6 is a bit much for the sliding splines semi trailing arm rear end so would drive accordingly and at far higher point to point speeds)

Funny that...both BL, both styled by Harris Mann. Hmmm

Any other candidates guys?

Farina Magnette is more spacious than the Z it replaced but thats about it advantage wise.
Any RWD car replaced by a FWD model, instantly inferior

TR6 was a top and tail Karmann restyle of Michelotti's 4 & 5. Mann's involvement was limited, if at all?

The TR7 was styled by Harris Mann like the Allagro...

AFAIK he would have had diddly involvement in the TR6, which was 68/9 and when he was still at art college I suspect.

The Allegro was 73 IIRC which means none qualify for historic road tax...about the only good thing with the fixed cutoff...
