Back in the June 2003 edition of Dolly Mixture Malc stated that he had been advised of an alternative lower coupling joint and asked for users to provide feedback. I have recently fitted the Rallydesign part to two of my 1500HL dolomites. I have been very pleased with the results as it gives a more positive feel to the steering and it should last longer than the original designed part as it does not have any rubber inserts. I was concerned that it might drastically increase the steering columb vibration but I have not found this to be excessive.
It is also cheaper @ £21 including postage in 2003 than the original designed part.
Rallydesign are on telephone 0179 531871 and the coupling part number is RD820
I had read that there might be a need to slightly shorten the intermediate shaft by about 4 mm but I did not find this was necessary as the coupling does not have to move the full extent of its possible travel. On one car it went straight on without any modifications but on the other which had a slightly different intermediate shaft I did find it necessary to extend the flat slightly so the the coupling would go sufficient far on when the clamping bolt was fitted.
Has anyone else on the discussion board carried out this modification and what are their findings as I strongly recommend the change?
