opinions on koni shocks?

hi i have a set of koni shocks on 1 of my sprints and spax on another what would be the best out of the 2?<br>

In my experience, AVO are about the best, having said that this was on VW`s, the quality of them is superb.

I'd choose Koni over spax. Koni are original fitment on the Lotus Elise and I'm sure Lotus know a thing or two about suspension. I think Spax have lived off the crest of an advertising wave for so long now. Everyone seems to have problems with them sooner or later.

My spax adjustable seats have siezed solid to the body, no up and down for me anymore. My friend just bought a set of AVo's for his Europa, they do look very well made.<br>

Well, I've actually had Spax, Koni's and AVO's to be precise!<br>

The Spax units were a load of shite, I wasnt too impressed with the damping ability (they reacted too slowly) and the adjusters made hardly any difference in damping and made a squeaking noise despite the car getting stiffer using the bounce test. Despite Spax's investigations they never found any fault with them so I tried Koni's which were a revelation in comparison with a nice feel to the ride and less harsh (possibly because they are oil filled rather than gas? I dunno, I'm no expert!). The big downside to the Koni's was you need to remove them and the spring in order to adjust the damping. <br>

Given the choice though I'd use the Koni's as they just feel better quality.<br>
<br>
Spax are more of a boy racer piece of kit.<br>

The AVO's are for ultimate set up allowing you to use any spring rate/length you like using 2.25" springs and adjust the ride height to perfection, my fronts have seen a few better days (they were fitted to a race car before I had them!) and probably need replacing but they do the job well enough. I've heard good things about GAZ units too and you should be able to get 2.25" coilovers from them that fit a Dolly.

been reading this post with interest as i need to renew the shocks on my sprint, i've got avo's on my mind but have a pair of standard shocks for the back and a second hand pair of leda's for the front .<br>
anyone had any experience of these type of shocks.<br>

Leda's are very nice shocks, fully rebuildable too as far as I know, if you send them to Leda. <br>

seats seizing to the shock body is down to aging i would say, or the crap quality powder coating/enamel or whatever it is they're meant to be coated in.<br>

i'll use something to act as a barrier, white grease, normal grease or maybe a regular dose of maintenance spray i.e. gt85 or something. if they're not up to the job I'll bay them n go with avos somewhere down the line, but will need a track day trip with the regulars for comparisons anyway.<br>

I'm having my garage fit some new shocks to my 1850. How much should I expect to pay in labour per corner. They told me that if I got them with the spring seats that it would be quicker to fit them. <br>

Are the spring seats the disks that come in the box with the shocks? <br>
<br>
I got a pair of Spax non-adjustable on ebay. These came with a single set of two of these disks, but one is bigger than the other. Does that mean that the disks are only used as part of the installation but and not left on the vehicle?<br>
<br>
Also the shocks, have come with some bushes. I am planning on rebushing the whole suspension front and back with the Mark Witor Superflex bushes, but I don't want to buy any bushes without good reason. <br>
<br>
Do you think its worth keeping the bushes that came with my Spax shocks?<br>

The discs you mention sound like the spring seats or caps. Sometimes these need a bit of adjustment to go on. If they have come off a dolly then hopefully they wilol be spot on. I'd be tempted to leave the bushes alone in the shox unless they look past it.<br>
