Rubber carb mounts, RE 1850

#1 Post by LewisK » Sat Jan 03, 2004 9:38 pm

Lo, just a quick q as to where is the best place to get the rubber carb mounts for the 1850's SU's. Robbers seem to be charging a rather extravagent 30 quid each, which would total 60 <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Thanks!

My local motor factor quoted me about £47 for a pair. I have not ordered mine yet but I can order 2 lots if you don't find then cheaper elsewhere or you could try them yourself. www.millautosupplies.co.uk/
Mine have been siliconed up for ages now which was supposed to be a quick fix if you are a bit skint!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Alright, that sounds more reasonable.
Many thanks, I'll post back on how good they are and where I got them from asap.

carb mounts

could`nt a machine shop make up a permanent pair from aluminium.
would then only require gasket paper for them to be airtight, and no more perishing rubbers!

Odd that

Yes, I don't really see why the rubber is required. Presumably it's to keep the carbs a) vibration isolated and b) heat isolated from the engine, or something similar.

Don't quiller offer an aluminium intake for the sprint which replaces the rubber ones?

Carb Mounts

I got the rubber mounts for my Sprint from Quillers. I expect they do 1850s as well. They always advertise offering discount to TDC members, so dont accept the advertised price!

rubbers

I paid £25 each for some 1850 mounts last year from RB as I thought mine were rather wobbly. The new ones are even more wobbly<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> , so if you would like my old ones, which are still serviceable, drop me an email before they go on eB...
Mill Autos can't get them anymore. Wish I had bought some when I first rang! I rang Quiller today and they cost the same a rimmers and wouldn't give me a discount for being a club member. I went to Robsport in the end and they still cost the same!

Try the TDC's advertising officer, Bruce Jones. The club bought a batch of spares last year, and I think they have a few of these rubbers in there<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
