During the replacement of the flexible mounts on my sprint (resulting in a much better all round engine tune & thanks for the advice), I noticed that with the return springs disconnected, I have more than “minimal” wear on the butterfly bushes/spindles on my carbs. This, I think, is causing my continuing difficulties to get a consistent mixture control.
The spindles are of course the easy bit; however, is it possible to rebush the carburettors at home or do I have to get a specialist (ie Burlen) to do the work? I read somewhere that it is possible to use stock Nylon rod (drilled and reamed) in lieu of the bronze(?) bushes.
Over the years I have accumulated two spare sets of carbs, all with the same problem (to varying degrees) is there an easy way to select the best set for refurbishing? Is it a case of the ones with the least wear marks on the dash pots and dampers?
Sprint butterfly spindle bushes
Re: Carbs
Your old girl might not have a sloppy bush, it might just be your shaft that is worn. Quite often you will find that the carb spindle is worn yet the bush in the carb body is relatively unworn. So new spindles might be enough to eliminate all play. If the carb body bush is really worn then someone like Burlen can re-bush and ream.

Or...
you could just get some HS6's off a scrap TR7 and combine them with your bits.
Later carbs with waxtstats and coil return springs usually have less wear.
