Misfire

After taking my car off the road for two days (three really but one was a no-goer as it was pouring down!) Ive replaced the timing chain tensioner, Sorted out my exhaust blow and fixed my starter <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

For the timing chain tensioner, after speakin to George he had worked out that with the cam coming off and being put back on so many times I'd let enough slack to get in the chain to allow the tensioner to pop out a notch. When the cam was put back on it was real difficult to get the sprocket up to the camshaft. Basically had to be levered on. The result, one mullerd timing chain tensioner! It didn't have a groove in it, it had a trench! <br>

The exhaust manifold studs (to downpipe) had stripped, they weren't holding it together atall. But as I'd had the system put on nice it sealed OK when warm just from the parts being pushed together. So I cut a thread in one side and drilled a hole for a nut and bolt the other side. Took starter off and cleaned up the solenoid's insides, sorted <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

Now it runs quite nice but under load from about 2500-3500 I'm getting a huge flat spot that often turns in to a misfire. If I drive rapidly through the ofending RPM range in first gear it won't do it but second and third gear will give me hassle. <br>

Ignition timing is set up. I've got BAL needles in my carbs, full of ATF fluid but.... And think that maybe this is the offending part, the damper springs... I've got short ones in there, bout 12cms long. The ones that came out were about 15cms long. Change them back?<br>

Carbs are at 12 flats down by the way.<br>

I'd look at my points gap and condition first for the flat spot/misfire, as you can drive through it I don't think its fuel related...<br>

Beware your exhaust fix; done it myself. It works fine, you forget about it. However, a nut and bolt next to the manifold will corrode super quickly and is the devil's own job to undo. (been there!). OK as a temporary, but a retap or new studs is the only real solution to prevent future frustration..

Richs Sprint does the same. But not always and from about 1500-3500.<br>

Mine has this really irritating misfire at 6200RPM, kind of cuts..........<br>

making you dizzy

Did you remove the dizzy cap at all? Removed mine at some point over winter put it back and had awful misfire. Took ages to find the cause which was kinda obvious. Centre brush on Dizzy cap had made a bid for freedom somewhere. Runs like a dream now (touches wood).<br>
