electronic ignition

Don't shoot, but I would like to know if it's worthwhile fitting an electronic ignition to my Sprint, if so what the best type to go for or should I stick with what I've got.<!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6 ... I would'nt use anything else, the quality of condensers is so poor now. I use a pirannha one, it's fine. Runs much smoother too

I had it fitted to my 1500HL - it was one manufactured by Jod and he fitted it for me.<br>

I would definitely recommend one and will be having one fitted to Victor too.<br>

As the switch is in the glove box, it also acts as an immobiliser when in the 'off' position which is a great added bonus (except when you forget you've switched it off and think the car won't start!) <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

Jod Clark makes and sells a unit which does away with the condensor but keep the points but gives a cleaner stronger spark; both Susie and I have these fitted and it shows a marked difference in starting and fuel economy.

The ones I make are dead easy to fit, lose the condensor and connect just 4 wires. They even come with the appropriate connectors on the ends of the correct-length cables. The are proving reliable in the extreme.<br>

I'm planning to take ten or so of these units to TDCIR to offer for sale or just talk about with anyone interested. I know two units already have names on them, how many more?<br>

I should have mentioned that cable-ties and full fitting instructions are included.<br>

My 1300 has had one fitted for over 10000 miles now. When I first changed over to this EI unit (the first one) it made a 5MPG improvement. I can't guarantee how big the improvement will be on <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>your</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> car, but it will not be subtle! Starting and high-rev performance is considerably better too.<br>

In 10000 miles the points gap has not altered AT ALL from the original setting.<br>
<br>

Note of advice here. Just because your points don't need any maintenance, you still need to check the rotor arm and cap occasionally. With the optical type the pickup can still get crap on it and give a poor signal too. It's easy to neglect this stuff when the points don't need adjusting anymore. <br>
