I have swapped the engine in my sprint. The one that came out had 2 wires on the dizzy -red and black - the one thats gone back has three very small wires - red blue and black. does anyone know where to connect these. I know there will be info that you guys need regarding what ignition system is it etc - if you could tell me what to look for I'd appreciate it.
Thanks David

Re: ignition wiring help
I don`t have a Sprint but normally you only have 1 wire coming from a Distributor and thats the low tension lead to the coil, On an 1850 it`s black and white.
do you have leccy ignition?????

Re: ignition wiring help
Yes I think I have electronic ignition - the lack of contacts gives it away. My other dollys (in various states of repair) all have conventional ignition. The engine that came out has a different type to the one that went in, but both electronic I think. Something aftermarket I guess

Re: ignition wiring help
At a guess I would say that the black wire is earth, red positive and the remaining one would be from the ignition module, however I would have thought there would be another wire aswell on a leccy ignition system, certainly there is on mine. One that goes from the dizzy to the leccy ign box and one from the leccy ign box to the coil.

Difficult...
best bet is to go to a scrappie, find the points and condensor type backplate and screws from anything vaguely 70's with a 45D Lucas dizzie (Mini, Spit, Allegor, Marina, dolly ohv) ...and swap out for points and condensor to get you going. then get a Jod type leccy set up later.
Re: Difficult...
Had it running on the engine that came out. I wrote to the old owner but he couldn't help (Thanks for the response adrian if you are watching!)
Teach me for not noting down the wires. I wonder what could possibly go wrong if I just connect them to the positive and negative - there is no electronic ignition box - it would be in the engine bay wouldn't it?
