Electronic Ignitions
Electronic Ignitions
What Electronic ignition units are people using in their Sprints? Luminition say their may be a problem using their systen due to the low distributor cap but they think people have tried them, they just dont know if they were sucessful. It would be good to hear from someone who is using one

Ive looked back through the archives & Piranah is mentioned but they had a poor reputation many years ago - the one my Brother had only lasted a few months. I know they are probably a different animal altogether now but Id rather stick with Luminition as Ive not had a problem with one in 20 years

Their Magnetron system will work but the Optronic system is a better unit so would be preferable if someone knows they are OK. It has been suggested that a slightly higher distributor cap can be used to give extra clearance - anyone heard of this? what off? (Ive seen Maestro 1300 mentioned) Presumably the manifold would need modifying to allow space.
Has anyone tried using the system from the Metro / Maestro on the Sprint?

Too many questions I know, but any help appreciated.
Electronic Ignition
I use an Aldon Ignitor (LU143) everything is inside the distributor and you can use a sports coil with it, but you have to use the clubs alternate cap, arm & leads for clearance. It's also cheaper than the luminition

Electronic Ignition
I have used the Newtronic (Pirhana) ignition for about 9 years and it has never given any trouble at all. These are available at http://www.newtronic.com
Electronic Ignition
Don't be too quick to discount the Pirahna system. I've been using the same Newtronic system (Pirahna) for over 9 yrs and 35000 miles. I heard that they don't like the damp much so I mounted the black box inside the car, up behind the dash. Perhaps that's the secret. However, I've always followed the advice of Jamie Weidner (remember him ?) and kept a points conversion kit in the car, just in case <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
