water leak

hi got back from a short drive this morning and noticed<br>
water leaking out from underneath the water pump cover<br>
it not coming from the gasket .<br>
just below the cover there is void the water seems to be coming from that .dose this mean the pump is on its way out or is it somthing worse.<br>

Yep, sounds like the WP needs to come out. Probably the seal gone.

from what it sounds like, the spindle seal has gone and water is leaking from the vent/ breather hole

Overhaul it. Overhaul kits are sub 20 quid, a new pump will cost you over 150.<br>

You have not stated which model of car you have.<br>
<br>
If it is a 1500cc I believe you will have to replace the complete pump because as far as I am aware these are not repairable.

interestingly, the engine i just took to jigsaw had been previously attacked by 'the silicone kid', the leak off 'hole' thing had been suitably plugged with a rectangular piece of rubber and fixed in there with a wodge of bath sealant.<br>

Kit from Fitchetts by far the better solution.<br>

If you put in a new pump, BK once suggested a new jackshaft and dizzy drive too as 'she' will always wear sympathetically to the bit that actually needs to be replaced!<br>
<br>
Don't forget the block bush which doesn't come as part of the 'kit'
