Radiator cap

What would happen if a radiator cap were faulty, if <br>
1) The pressure relief mechanism did not operate<br>
2) The seal was naff and didn't pressurise the system at all?<br>

I think the whole idea behind presurising the system is so the boiling tempurature of the water is raised.<br>
<br>
And I'd imagine that if the cap didn't blow off something else would give way first.

If the seal is donald ducked the coolant can overflow then suck air back in. Fill it up, go for a short drive to warm up then park somewhere and have a look under the nearside front wing. You should see the overflow pipe where it comes through the inner wing and any coolant coming out will give the game away. Don't overfill the expansion tank though or it will overflow anyway.<br>

thanks - my though was if the cap was too high poundage of pressure before release would this cause a 'drip of water from the recess below the water pump on a sprint block.<br>
<br>
that said I think that it is the water pump seals. I have the kit for that now anyway so it will be rebuilt.<br>
