My P6 V8 3500s didnt want to go to cardiff....I had collapsing oil presure, a high temp guage, full on kenlowe and a nasty pinking noise at the usual outside lane M3 speed...(naughty)....oh dear. In to neutral and a coast to the hard shoulder.
It was damn hot! (weather too that is!)
So I coooled it down, filled it up with H2O and trickled home tail between legs. Had to stop and refill twice more but made it. Oh dear, Bubbles in expansion tank on idle.
Oh well...leave it for later. So many Dollies to fettle.
Its now much cooler and Ive run it to work on short trips.
Its lost half a pint and runs fine now. Fan hasnt come on once and I'm thinking its healed itself....
Its even been fine in a short spell of traffic.

Hairline crack I reckon. Yours could be the same.
Put the SU's back on and try it. Its a lot easier than doing the heads if you dont need to.
Sprint (Rover V8) Overheating...
My biggest mistake was...
...part-exchangeing the SU's, sadly

Sounds like your V8 luck's about as good as mine Jonners... Only difference is mine was fine until I messed about with it. (My shins are severely bruised from kicking myself)

I might be able to get the SU's back off the bloke, as long as he's not bolted them onto his Land Rover...

Too many cars... too little time! I know that feeling well.

Tempted to do the head gaskets anyway, just to rule that out. Certainly will replace the inlet manifold gasket first, as that's easy. Something to do on the bank holiday weekend, anyway!

Anyways, must disappear - off on holiday now for 2 wks

Cheers for all your advice,
