Brake Adjuster

#1 Post by Resko » Thu Mar 04, 2004 7:57 pm

Hi folks...One of my rear brake adjuster arms is not behaving properly...rather than turning the adjuster wheel when operated it pops out instead, though it does sit tight against the wheel when not being used...iv'e put new shoes, cylinders and cleaned all round so nothing is seized...any ideas?
i had the same problem whhen i changed my wheel cylinder.
i found that the cog didn't fit in the cylinder properly.
i also found that if the shoes are not properly in place, the arm will pop off.
make sure the cog sits in place and turns smoothly and also make sure the shoes are settled in properly.
i think i was shown when mutting the pads on i should put the drum on and wiggle it abourt to centre them but i can't remember why i did this.
hope this helps.

Bet youve lost the shim that sits between the shoe and handbrake operating lever. This means the lever has to move too far before operating the brake shoe and the adjusting lever/pawl slips off the wheel. The shim/s will still be in the old shoes I expect so dig around in the bin and find it.
