Load sensing valve
Load sensing valve
Hi all,

does anyone have a Load sensing valve for a Sprint?
Mine's seized and has caused the car to fail it's MOT.

Are they simple to overhaul?

Cheers
Re: Load sensing valve
I think you can buy the seal kits from club stock.
are they safe to re-seal? ie: once they've seized are they more likely to fail?
Load Sensing Valve
The valve siezes due to rust forming at the outer end of the housing, under the rubber boot.
You can sometimes free it in situ by removing the boot and applying some D40 or PlusGas, then easing the piston rod by levering it with a pair of long nosed pliers placed around the 'shoulder' section.
I did this when mine failed the MOT for the same reason, and its been working fine ever since.

Re: Load Sensing Valve
I did that with mine and it got through the MoT, but when a car stopped suddenly in front of me the other day, the back wheels still locked up first. This might be more down to poor front brakes though.
LSV
I overhauled mine with a club kit and it wasn't bad to do, you need a large socket to undo the nut, 32mm if I remember rightly - it was covered in a previous issue of Dolly Mixture, anyone remember which one? Really just a matter getting everything de-rusted and scrupulously clean before building back up with new hydraulic seals (I used meths). I can probably find the article if you haven't got the relevant copy of DM, email me on:
Alex, cheers for the article.
Just organizing a car for over the winter so the Sprint can be garaged and have some work done (and avoid the dreaded salt!), so the article will prove VERY handy.
Cheers again!
Does the club kit include the rubber boot? Mine must have rotted and fallen off years ago.
Thanks,
Re: Attn: Malc
No boot in club seal kit, you must be unfortunate there as i've never seen one that is not useable.

Re: Attn: Malc
Does anyone have one going spare? I could buy a rebuild kit from club store. My current LSV has no boot on the front, so it gets quite rusted up and full of mud, etc.
