Uprated Brakes
Hello All

I want to get better stopping power for my 1850? What is the best/cheepest way to do this.

Are the uprated brake disks from Rimmer Brothers worth the money?

www.rimmerbros.co.uk/cgi-bin/rimmer?fin ...

They seem really expensive. Does anyone else do uprated brake disks?

Thanks

Chris

Nah there bollox.

To be honest I dont have a clue but if I were to uprate my brakes I wouldn't fit the same sized discs! I drive like an even massiver twat than Jod and used to get shed loads of brake fade after a mere 2 minutes when down 'the lanes'!

Bigger discs and bigger pad area is what you want. I've gone round a blind single track corner at about double the sensible rate due to my brakes fading! I was lifting myself out my seat from pushin the pedal so hard!

But then again I think everybody should have a car with shit brakes, my mates all drive like knobs 'cos they think there brakes will stop them no matter what, I give two of them 6 months until they crash.

Sierra mod is the way to go

Re: Uprated Brakes
I'll second Adam on the Sierra mod but you can also use Princess 4 pot calipers as well. I don't know what else would be involved to fit them.

sierra mod
Its the only way to go. Princess calipers are too big to fit on bigger discs, plus really dear now. Sierra discs and calipers great, I've never had brake fade since fitting the sierra mod, even with standard brake pads and towing 3/4 ton unbraked

Re: sierra mod
the Sierra Mod that I have read about sounds like it involves lots of fettling. That gets expensive quick for me, cause I would need my garage to fit them.

Is that right? Does it take a bit of doing to get all the Sierra bits on a Dolomote? Or is it a straight swap?
nowt really wrong with 'standard' brakes if they're serviced/bled properly and you have good discs n pads. my sprint should be producing in the order of 180hp, I have standard calpiers, rossini discs and ebc pads to start with, but also plan to try standard pads. no reason why you shouldnt be able to lock the wheels on standard calipers if you stamp on the pedal hard enough.

sierra mod good for track/race car IMO
Re: Uprated Brakes
Hello All

I have heard of these Rossini brake disks. Do they make these as a straight swap for Dolomite items? Will they help to stop my car?

I agree that under standard braking conditions Dolomite brakes are adequate. I have good pads, brakes, shoes and disks all round with a well-bleed system, but on a few occasions with 5 adults in my car, I found the standard set up to be a bit weak, especially down long hills.

As I put about 10,000 miles a year on my Dolomite, safety is a worthwhile investment. The whole Sierra Conversion sounds like it would be worth while if I could do the work my self, but it sounds like I would jut get ripped off on the labour hours if I asked my garage to do it for me.

Either I'm going to have to avoid those long downhill sections of the roads in the Yorkshire Dales, or I will need to find some method of improving braking that my garage can bolt on for less than £250.

If any of you have any other information on how I can achieve improved braking without having to spend more than that it would be much appreciated.

Kind Thanks

Re: Uprated Brakes
We can supply a vented disc brake conversion that will fit under your standard Sprint wheels, and is an easy DIY installation.

Cost will be a bit more than you wanted to spend due to shipping costs to UK, but some others from UK have bought these kits and seem happy.

Quote:
We can supply a vented disc brake conversion that will fit under your standard Sprint wheels, and is an easy DIY installation.

That's good to know. I have calculated that conversion to approx £293 GBP. I was hoping that my budget of £250 would include installation not just the parts.

My Dolomite is not a race car, so I may not need such beefy brakes, although the do look the business. I just have really heavy friends who enjoying being wafted about the countryside in style. I may have to rethink my expectations regarding what sort of improvements I can achieve with £250.

I got new disks about 5000 miles ago, so there is a bit of time before it is worth doing anything.
Thanks
Re: Uprated Brakes
ps - chris, rossini are direct swap for standard discs, only differences would be better quality material, drilled and grooved, will munch through pads quicker but should be better than EBC discs IMO.

have yet to finish building the car, so no practical experience of how good they are

just saves buggering about, but if im not happy with the result i'll be on to sprint parts for the sierra upgrade.

project STEALTH - PASS!!!
project white - AAARGGGHHH!!! too many cars!!!

Re: Uprated Brakes
Don't think the <a href="http://www.sprintparts.triumphowners.co ... kit is sierra based. It is a bolt on kit of parts tho Chris so woule be cheap to get fitted.
wasting money
Don't waste it on different disc and pads, you need to do either sierra or sprint parts to get good braking.

A perfect condition standard set up is no where near good enough even for a standard car.
