Fuel Tank

#1 Post by MWU773V » Sat Mar 27, 2004 6:34 pm

Anyone had good or bad experience of restoring a petrol tank? I see Frosts have a kit but just trying to find out if anyone has restored/sealed one.
is it worth the effort whilst you can still probably pick up a good second hand one for less than the price of the kit?
Mended one on a Marina once; lasted about a week!

Tanked

I paid djw thingy off here a few quid (15, 20, 25, can't remember now!) for a very good condition s/h one last year. OK, so it was Rimmers, and doesn't fit as well as the one that was in the car, but it doesn't leak, and still has all it's paint <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Gave the old one away early this year, it was fine apart from having been blocked in the outlet, and a bit rusty inside. Was just in my way every time I fought my way into the garage.

My fuel tank developed a leak through the fibreglass patch over the er, fibreglass patch...

I took it to a radiator repair shop - they filled it with inert gas (or water, can't remember) and welded a couple of metal patches on - good as new!
ebay again

Bought a spare off of Ebay last week £17.99 and also a complete rear bumper in good nick. I even managed to get my parents to collect it from Cornwall as they were nearby!

Planning on sealing the "new" one prior to it being swapped when I have the boot floor welded next week.
