dash year changes
Hi
i have just bought a complete dash with the earlier clocks(upside down fuel, temp and batt gauge no heated rear screen switch but a dimmer for the dash lights) what year did they change from that dash to the one in my 77 dolomite
Cheers
Re: dash year changes
I would've thought that the changes came about in 1976 when the whole range was rationalized.
Does anybody know better than me?

1974 Toledo 2-door (currently a spares car for Snowdrop)
1973 1500fwd (Baby Blue slowly being recommissioned)
1971 1500fwd (spares car for Baby Blue & future donor for the "Stretch 1500" project)
1983 Acclaim HL (Becky, my daily driver)
1977 Dolomite 1300 (Snowdrop, just failed the MoT - AAARRGGHHHH!!!!!)

Re: dash year changes
I know the Sprint/1850 dash changed in '76. Not sure which model you're referring to as these didn't have a dimmer switch nor "upside down gauges" !!

Re: dash year changes
Early "DOLOMITE" ie 1850 only; have seen them on N platers, no later. Usually accompanied the three rail 'box

Re: dash year changes
I know that the 'all-systems-go' light cluster is different on the pre-1976 cars - it has seperate lights for left and right indicators (later ones had just the one), but I think the wiring for the dimmer will be self-contained.

It will fit, but it won't be a case of simply plugging everything in.

dash
changed after 74 as has been said as the treee rail box (last year for all triumph mechanicals)ex sprint there after more reliant on bl parts bin
iirc the connectors are different on the looms so unlees you realy want to be ars** to change all these i'd look for a newer type dash

HHHHmmmm
To fit the dash as one lump won't work, as the wiring harness is different.
To fit the upside down clocks into your dash will work, as you will transfer the wires on a 1 by one basis.

It shouldn't take too long, but you will retain the later warning light cluster, later hazard switch, and the HRW switch on the dash.
Re: HHHHmmmm
Quite rare now...I have a couple of the matching face time clocks, but haven't seen any of the others for a good few years...
peripheral vision...
instruments replaced these nice type face ones by late 73 on M plate. It accompanied the binning of strombergs for SU's but the 3 rail box stayed a bit longer. Ive seen an N plate honeysuckle car with a 3 railer overdrive...

So sorry Rob, they don't belong in yours....
and how would you keep the mileage the same on the speedo?

The loom is indeed different and the later warning light cluster too, but as advised there is nothing to stop you swapping the clocks on a one for one basis and keeping your loom.
Re: mlg
i would correct the speedo cant be that hard......was going to swap the clocks only keep the seat belt warning light and hazard switch and relocate either the heated rear screen switch or the dimmer switch.....
Cheers
Cutting A Dash
Chaps are right, early 1850 style, changed to later style at about 76, sprint changed from rectangular hazard swith to a bright red knob at about the same time.
