Paint colours

Andy, can you tell me what colour red you're sprint is in the picture. ( Jigsaw topic) And is it a triumph colour.?<br>
Also if anyone knows if triumph actually used signal red for the Dolly range. I have a copy of the sprint factory/garage repair manual that i was given from an ex Rover/Leyland dealer which give's all specifications including trim and paint colours used on the Sprint. Signal red is one of them but it is not a colour i have read about in the forums from other owners and wondered if this was just a colour guide that would cover all the triumph range and just stick a copy of that page in all the models manuals?.<br>

Is very similar to Pimento and I think is an Austin Morris colour used on MGB's etc...<br>
Ive only ever seen Dolomites in these red colours<br>

Damson (dark cherry) replaced I think by Carmine (lighter cherry)<br>
Pimento (tomato/pilar box) replaced by Vermillion (orange).<br>
<br>
There may have been some overlap in production.<br>
<br>
There are quite a few shades of Vermillion and I dont find it an easy colour to match. Mine looks a bit piebald as the rear wings and one door are original. Front wings are a bit brighter. The last lot of aerosols I bought from Holts and Carplan are also slightly different.<br>

Russet, Brooklands and Tahiti seem to match much better. I still think carmine is my favourite Dolly colour and saffron is my least....<br>

The BL Sprint parts catalogue (1975) doesn't list Signal Red, only the colours Jon mentions.<br>
Signal Red was a popular Jaguar colour durng the '60s, if you see a red E-type or MkII, the chances are it is Signal Red. When alongside Pimento, it make the latter look very orange.<br>

IIRC, Pimento (as mentioned) was the original light red 74, 75, 76 manufacture. I had a 78 Sprint, this was also light red, but I recall it was Flamenco (paint code CAD). Vermillion emerged about 79 on the early T Platers. Vermillion has more of an orange hue to it. <br>

To me it always seemed<br>
<br>
Pimento = Bright Red<br>
Flamenco = Bright Red with a tint of orange<br>
Vermillion = Orange with heavy tint of Light Red<br>

Thank's for you're replies lad's, think i'll have to flip a coin now. Had a better look at the workshop manual and i think i know where Signal red comes into Triumph's colour's. On the colour/trim page there is a chart/graph.<br>
9 Base colours down the lefthand side, Black, Red, Brown, Yellow, Green, Blue. Purple, Grey, White.<br>
<br>
Across the top is, Basic colour number . (Black is 01 , Red 02, Brown 03, and so on) followed by 12 shades.<br>
For the Red colour you have 9 shade's, Signal is the 3rd, Pimiento 7th, Carmine 8th, and Magenta 9th. Having a Sprint with one of these colour's like Jod, if it is the original colour, his paint code will be, 82, 8th shade of the 2nd colour.<br>
If it is Jod, could you check your code, i may be able to use signal after all. If anyone wants a copy of this to help match awkward colours (or even if you're just confused by my crap explanation) i will gladly Email or Fax it to you. As it is a garage manual it has all spec in, so if you need any other info apart from paint give me a shout.<br>

Hi, Lad's.<br>
Checked through spec sheet Resko, cant find any restrictions with paint trim combinations. But found that the colours codes are not just for paint as i first thought.<br>
It does'nt alter my description at all, it just means that some of the shade's are for trim aswell.<br>
e.g. White paintwork uses the base colour 09.<br>
There are 3 shade's of white used, Honeysuckle being the third shade. so a car painted Honey suckle would have a paint code 39.<br>
If this car's interior trim is say Navy Blue, then its trim code would be-<br>
Base colour Blue 06, and Navy Blue being the eighth shade, trim 86. <br>
If the car is painted 2 colours, eg. White and Wedgewood the code would read, 19/26 with white being the main colour.<br>
Interior trim cloth is as follows, Leathercloth- No prefix letter. Leather- Prefix letter H. Cloth- Prefix letter C.<br>
And Acrylic paints bear the suffix "A".<br>
