1500 rocker cover paint

#1 Post by dollyboy » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:57 am

rocker cover on the SE looks ropey so im gona pull it off, and paint it.

thought of using wheel paint, but found some silver high temp paint in halfrauds, unless anyone got any better ideas what to use?

I have a new gasket and some sealant, it looks like it's removed and badly re-sealed at some point, unless this is where scott topped it up n missed the hole?!
You are only painting the outside bit aren't you? I would have thought a nice gloss black would have been easier to live with.

Did I top the oil up? I can't even remember!

I think you can get aluminium rocker covers from Moss for the 1500. Then you could polish it to your heart's content.

The problem with the pressed metal covers is that if overtightened they splay and break their own seal. Its a cork gasket so shouldn't require sealant.

I used matt black on the TR6, but I'd go with silver as a contrast to the black head and block which you will also be painting no doubt?

Degreasing the metal may take a while...

ahh, the new gasket isnt cork, its some kind of more robust re-usable substitute. I'm using sealant anyway, because... errrr.... because I bought some

yep, i'll only be painting the outside ?!

no im not painting the rest, the SE isnt getting the full works. may blast the remaining crud off with a pressure washer/tfr.

de-greasing... errrrr... hammerite thinners probably

cheers folks
I only said the outside as otherwise bits of flaky paint will end up in your engine! I'm sure you knew that anyway.
Yer it's for household rads but they must stock it as it can be used on anything hot
