May I make a suggestion though. When you mask up for primer fold the masking tape over on it`s self along it`s length so that two sticky sides are touching each other, but leaving enough to still stick to the body, you will find this creates a little flap, now when you go to spray the primer you won`t get quite such a hard edge, it leaves less flatting back to bring the primer level with the surrounding paint and therefore you won`t see the line you have primed up to when you have top coated it.<br>
You may well have done this and it just doesn`t show on the pic, just thought i`d mention it.

Done the rear of the ns arch, and as you can see i've used the half-fold tape trick:<br>

And then, after making my decision about the rear screen surround, out came the fun tool. I have decided to make my own panel in stainless steel, and bond it/spot weld over the top. So all the grot and rot is cut out now. The tricky part will be getting the bend right in the corners, but i'm not going to rush it. When the new panel is on top of this, it will be unnoticeable even to the trained eye.<br>

I'm finding that i will do maybe thirty minutes on one section, get unhappy with that, so head off and do another. If i try to concentrate too hard on one area at once it just depresses me, so small nibbles at a time seems to be the way forward.<br>

i reckon you're doin well, its a brave repair, i became quite handy with filler and stuff some yrs ago, out of practise now and know my limitations - I wouldnt attempt something that fierce without someone with more experience helping me, so nothing but admiration for anyone that has a go.<br>

Its all done now Alun...i didn't realize that could happen, thanks for the tip and i'll take care in future. In all honesty all i had to do was wave the angle grinder near the panel, and the rot just leaped away from the car, it was that bad.

You could try micro mesh to 'feather' the edge of the freshly applied paint.....<br>

Both the rear arches are sorted now...the paint needs to be flatted back, and I'm not sure that the match is great, but it's certainly better than rusty bubbly arches. The truth will be seen when I get her all done and outside under natural sunlight of course. The match looks better in the flesh so to speak, I think the flash has enhanced the look of fresh paint against the old...<br>

Having finished this section (I'm not going to flat back/t-cut until all the work is done), I popped the windscreen out in order to attack the section at the front. New rubber is already winging its way from Rimmers (£32 instead of £38 cos i'm cheeky)<br>

Left me with this...the black is Hammerite Kurust. It paints on as white, once the rot is gone it turns black. If it goes blue you must paint it again with more Kurust. note in the corner there is a little blue, this is where it went directly onto paint.<br>

The hole and the edge of the sceen surround has been filled/built up with Aluminium Double Bond putty. If you leave this for an hour to go off slightly, this can be smoothed quite well with a little bit of water and your fingertip. I'm leaving it overnight now to go hard, then a skim of normal (p3<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START 8) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> filler can be applied and smoothed.<br>

As you can see I'm still shying away from making a new panel for the rear....but as I progress, my confidence builds.
