Paint suppliers
A few weeks back I noticed a thread from someone about Halfrauds mixing up the mimosa yellow in spray canisters but can't find it. The paint colour code for mimosa is 64. Does anyone recall who supplied the info and better still how much Halfrauds were charging. Was it also a special order?<br>

Am redoing the engine bay whilst I have the engine out for the (second!!) rebuild in 10 years!<br>

Re: Halfrauds spray canisters
I sourced some Mimosa mixed to order and put in spray cans from Romart Automotive Paints locally and shipped them down to Len Hughes...how was it Len? From memory it was about £7.50 for a 400ml can..

Sounds about the same as my local brown brothers. I had some brooklands green mixed there for the 18TR750, not that it`s made it`s way on to the car at the moment.

Re: Halfrauds spray canisters
It was me. Halfords can mix to any paint colour - they just searched for Mimosa on the computer and the codes matched up what I had. <br>
<br>
The problem was that the yellow base needed (code 003) was out of stock and they seemed to think it would never be back in stock. They asked me if the original colour would have been lead-based. <br>
<br>
It was £9.99 for a regular sized spray can. But I'd recommend you go to a proper paint company who can get it right.

Re: Halfrauds spray canisters
Thanks for the feedback. I also checked with my local Halfords Metro and they confirmed the prices / can size. Not sure about the shortage of base coat though as their "trained" operator was, well - not quite trained up on that one!! I'll have to leg out the mega Halfords and check with them. I'll also check this Romart Automotive while I'm at it. I'm trying to respray the enginebay with a Badger airbrush spray kit which pushes out about 5 gnat wees of fluid enough to cover an area the size of a thumbnail!!<br>

Re: Halfrauds spray canisters
Update on the Romart Auto thread - they charge £8.99 per 400ml can and postage is a hefty £5 per can!! This is a bit steep when compared with the Halfords cost of £9.99 per can but can be purchased virtually locally saving postage.<br>

Re: Halfrauds spray canisters
I was a bit sceptical as to how good a match the paint would be - basically the computer tells the operator how much of each colour to add to the mix based on weight. There were figures of 72.8g showing on the screen - I'm not sure how accurately a poorly-trained Hellfrauds monkey would actually measure it...

Halfrauds
Measure accurately! No chance. I recently had some 'Urban Grey Metallic' made up by my local monkey. looked more like blue Hammerite. So I left him there, literally carrying the can!

halfrauds paint grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
havent posted for a while but this thread kinda gets my goat i started a thread a while back about mixing cans and hellfrauds was mentioned too i went down there to find two spotty oiks behind a desk with there heads buried in a screen i asked why they didnt have vermillion on there shelf when there was space and all one of them said was ill mix one for a tenner..................thats double the price of a shelf can so i left it and i went back last week and managed to get the manager who went through all his stock and realised some twat hadnt taken the two off the stock sheet so the system allways thought it had some which is why there was never any there he ordered some but i cant be arsed to go back yet hahahaha.

Re: Halfords
I'm starting to consider myself really lucky here. There are some real car nuts working in my local Halfords. One former employee used to hillclimb and sprint a MkII escort and one current one has a Spitfire. Another has a BMW 535i which he took to the 'Ring. The manager has been there for years too. Yes they do sell some shite polished junk, but everywhere seems to these days, and generally they're pretty good.<br>

Hi Alun,<br>
<br>
Sorry for the delay in responding but haven't been up for a while (my work + engine rebuild taking all daylight hours and too knackered to flash the PC up late in evening!!) Anyway, many thanks for your offer but, as I have got my Badger airbrush kit working again, and as I had a fair amount of cellulose left over from the restoration respray I am gradually working my way round the engine bay with this - and it ain't doing too bad a job. So, thanks anyway but I'll decline your kind offer.<br>
Hope to see you all at TDCIR. Mike T
