Cleaning sump amd pressure filters in o/d units

#1 Post by Richard the old one » Sun Nov 07, 2004 5:50 pm

I have just had time to read the Oct / Nov issue of Dolly Mixture. As usual I have found it to be most interesting and informative.

That leads me onto the article on O/D units. On page 40 it states "It is recommended that every 6000 miles the oil level is checked and every 12000 miles the oil is drained completely. (When hot). To drain this type O/D system the sump on the O/D must be removed as well as the min gearbox drain plug. This will provide access to the suction and pressure filters in the O/D which should be cleaned -----."

I have cleaned both the sump and pressure filters when I have stripped and rebuilt 1500 O/D gearboxes and was surprised at the amount of bits that were in them. That was my limit when it came to touching the o/d units.

Does any Dolomite owner clean these filters every 12000 miles or even drain the gearbox regularly?
