1500 to sprint replica!? (fitting alternative axles)
1500 to sprint replica!? (fitting alternative axles)
I am still at the experimental stage with my 1500 HL but would like to know if the sprint rear axle will bolt straight in instead of the 1500. What effects would this have to the acceleration? If it lowers the top end speed I wont bother. Which leads me to the next question, does the rear anti roll bar bolt straight on.<br>
The reason I ask is as Ive mentioned previously, there is a sprint in my local scrappy, which I am thinking could give up its rear brake drums and anti roll bar or complete axle!!!<br>
I dont know if its LSD either!<br>
On an exhaust issue, I bought a stainless sprint back box off ebay where is the best place to buy the over axle part as the 1500 over axle bit exits toward the off side of the car, looking from behind, and I am thinking the sprint one doesnt. Am I wrong!?

Re: 1500 to sprint replica!?
The sprint axle will not bolt straight in; I'm pretty sure the propshaft is the wrong length. Someone with better knowledge than I will probably tell you for sure. The diff on the sprint is 3.45:1, which is longer than all but the 1850 auto, and will give you an extra couple of MPH on the top end.

Re: 1500 to sprint replica!?
I read from the brochure that the 1850 and 1500 had the same rear axle and the 1850 had the roll bar so am assuming the roll bar at least will fit.<br>
I cant see the props being different tho, but I am bowing to superior knowledge! Ask me one on Manta's!!! He He!

Re: 1500 to sprint replica!?
Replying to my self, surely I must be mad!<br>
Just read someone elses post and indeed the axle is different! I will just get the brakedrum assemblies and roll bar!<br>
Any help with the exhaust problem?

Re: 1500 to sprint replica!?
Roll bar will bolt straight on as all trailing arms are the same.<br>
<br>
Exhaust...try the usual suspects, Rimmers, Fitchetts etc but expect to pay disproportionally for the one bit.

Re: 1500 to sprint replica!?
You wouldnt see any increase in top speed would you? Surely when you are doing your max speed its the engine thats out of puff nothing to do with the gearing.

Valvey Bouncy
Try telling that to my rev counter!<br>
<br>
I've had more than one bog standard low or mid spec car sat on the red line in top <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :eek --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>
<br>
My old Dolly 1300 would just about hit in on the flat, and a half decent 1500 without overdrive may well manage it too. Which isn't good, when you think about how strong the bottom end is on these engines.

Re: Valvey Bouncy
To be honest I'm not a racer, all I was looking to achieve was to lower the revs at 70 for economy reasons. Sad old man!!!

Re: Valvey Bouncy
Has your car got overdrive, that would be the easiest way of losing a few revs, alternativley you could put an 1850 auto diff in.

Hmmm...
A sprint diff will bolt straight in BUT the prop shaft is a different lebgth I think. That being said we did manage to fit one in Richard Hydes Tolly 2 door and the prop mated up okay. Its only an inch or so out and there was enough give to take it. I never heard him complain about it later. It would then be 3.45 :1 and raise the gearing a bit. There are charts around to tell you the sums. Your speedo wont reed correctly though. Not sure what your chances are of getting the right speedo drive either as TBOMK the 3.45 diff was never used with the single rail box. It was used with an o/d one so a Sprint speedo drive cog would be right if you have an o/d box already. Or you could go down to 60 or 65 profile tyres. Lots of combinations.<br>
I reckon the 1500 dollie works best with a 3,89 diff to give you a bit more lively acceleration, o/d to give you a decent cruise and the rear roll bar bolts in.<br>
Sprint drums wont fit your 1500 axle...so leave them on it. <br>
Ive got a 3.89 diff going spare soon...down in Somerset if you want to make me an offer.<br>

Re: Hmmm...
My car is an overdrive model, which works very well I think its because I've come down from a 2.0 that its sounds like its screaming at 70! I don't suppose the sprint gear box, propshaft and axle will fit complete? I might just give it the axle and prop a go just for giggles! If it works for one man it might work for another.<br>
Thanks for all help and advice, steep learning curve!<br>
Thanks for the offer of the axle, somerset is a little far for me at the mo, well at least till I finish my VW camper/part's van!

Where...
...in the Country is the scrappy Sprint? Liklihood is if they sell you those bits they will have made their money on the car and the rest will get crushed! You needn't be too specific until you've had your bits but at least we can get localish vultures circling ready for when you've had your fill!!

oh yes, and i can vouch for the dolly vulture team, the car will be reduced to a bare shell in less than half a day. Just make sure you have plenty of tea and coffee, stand back and enjoy the action! dont be scared by the mysterious grunting noises, its all part of the ritual.<br>

I still dont think it would increase your top speed <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>
<br>
The engine just stops revving higher after such a speed regardless of whether the gearings altered. And I've just thought of the perfect example. When a sprints in over drive the top speed is reduced.... but its a higher final drive ratio... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :p --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->
