Slick 50 NOT TO BE USED IN O/D GEARBOXES!
additives
will suck you all in.
A local mechanic (of some standing) has never seen an engine fail as a result of the type of oil. Its the lack of it that causes an engine to fail.
Why would you want to put an additive into todays modern oils especially the synthetics.
I' ve got a Herald that runs on 20/50 (noadditive, except in the fuel) changed every 3000miles has now done 100000 miles never had a shaft grind: bearings only at 64thou, and still runs 70lb oil pressure.
Oil additives are a 'have'.
Its all in the maintenance.
Well....
I put slick 50 in 3 cars...
The cavalier 2000 (opel manta b engine) seemed a lot better, quiter and cooler running and a bit more mpg too at about 85k miles IIRC but then it blew a hydraulic valve lifter...made horiible noises and was lucky not to stuff the camshaft. Coincidence?
The Rover P6 was nice and smooth but then started several major oil leaks that I never really fixed before I sold it on.
The Dolly Spint still has it in...130 k up after a rebuild at 80....std crank and just new rings and a hone.
But it likes to leak a bit too...Rocker cover and plug tubes mainly...dont they all.
Having never seen any real science I'm swayed by the arguments in that web article about oil and engine makers and general competances. If AVCO Lycoming say it has no benefical effect than I'll leave it out in future....
The consequences for them are a bit more serious arent they!
