Kenlowe wiring

#1 Post by dolly mixture ed » Fri Feb 20, 2004 12:55 pm
Ive been meaning to re-wire my kenlowe - so that it includes a relay in the circuit.

I know that there was a British convention for wiring colours used on cars of our age. Was there a set colour used for electric fans? or what would be the best colour wire to use (if I can get it) in the correct amp rating.

ps. I could always use yellow with brown spots to match the car <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

You meen there is supposed to be a colour code !!
I thought they were all black, with the odd coloured one that changes colour at some obscure point, just to confuse.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> Leastways, thats what mines like. If you find a supplier for yellow/brown spots ask about carmine/brown spots for me<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> While im thinking of it, just going to pop out and check my fire extinguisher.
Had a look at the diagram for a late USA Spit (this had an electric fan as std), but unfortunately there seems to be an error as both sides of the relay coil are connected to ground!

Anyway it was a white wire on the side that should have been live to relay coil, and slate and red from relay coil to the thermoswitch.

The live to the fan is brown from live on starter solenoid to the fuse, then purple and green to the contacts then not marked to the fan and through to gnd. Pretty useless really.

What other triumphs were fitted with electric fans as std?

This is fairly irrelevant, but I've had problems with the inline fuse on my kenlowe. As the fuse sits above the radiator (it does on my car anyway) it gets crusty stuff building up on it and stops making the connection. A bit of WD40 sorts this out but I thought it may be worth pointing out.
Where can I buy a belt for my car?
