Just changed the starter motor on my Mums 1976 1500TC (the one that Alun helped with an engine change).

After changing it, it starts perfectly but is accompanied by a loud noise not dissimaliar to the noise a fan belt makes when it is slipping. The noise continues after the engine is running but dimminshes with higher revs, foot off the accelerator and back to idle the noise persists as before. The noise appears to emminate from the starter mootor area. It is a new recon unit so I don't suspect the unit itself.

However, one of the wires which has its own terminal directly above the + terminal on the starter may be a bit dodgy. If I take it off the starter motor totally, the engine still starts up and yes the noise is there as well.

My question is this. Is the horrible noise the starter motor not disengaging and if so, is the wire I've mentioned the wire that tells the starter to disengage?

Any ideas?
