Advice on guages please

#1 Post by Leeds Sprint » Wed Aug 23, 2006 3:38 pm

Hello

I have 2 problems that have developed with the guages in my 1850 HL.

1) Temp guage reads zero. The connection to sensor by the thermostat seems pretty good. What are the most common causes and fixes please.

2) The choke light is not coming on when I use the choke. The choke is still opperating but there is not light to indicate it is in use. Ironically just prior to this, for a few days the light was coming on with the choke fully depresssed. Again, does anyone have any suggestions about this one?

Thanks

Chris

Guages

1, could be wire of gauge at the dash end, or could be sender unit. More than likely the sender unit.

2, Probably the switch that is behind the choke knob, probably just needs a clean with a spray of WD40, unless the wires have come off.

the fuel guage work?
They both have the same feed from the voltage stabilser.
See if the wire on the sender makes the guage go when just shorted to earth. Then its the sender...(unlikley as Ive never known one fail).
Suspect dirty connections on the guage itself.
choke switch can fail or the bulb go in the light cluster.
Meter should tell you.
