rev counter

#3 Post by rpgrainger » Fri Sep 29, 2006 2:41 pm

Now the rev counter could be broken as it was bought as a complete dash.....but the old wiring was still on the back of the dash and there is two white wires on the back of the early rev counter
Cheers
Wake up...

I find these old rev counters sometimes need a tap on the glass to get them to wake up, especially after a long period of lack of use.
Wiring

#5 Post by Triumph1300 » Fri Sep 29, 2006 6:57 pm

If it's got 2 white wires on the back, then it needs wiring in series between the coil and the distributor.
It's a different wiring circuit on the very early tachos

You wil then from memory, also need an ignition supply and earth to the tacho

Ring if you need to know more
sprint/HL wiring for the tacho is red wire to the bulb, black to earth of case of dial. black/white to bullet connector (from coil) and two mystery greens that are the ignition live I think.

just had a discussion on CT board about this and also have dial/dash loom in my garage here, just not sure where the greens go.

yes i have all of the above wires but on the back of the early rev counter there are 2 bullet connectors that both had white wires on them one with the grey stripe and an all white one
Id say in that case (if you look at the back of the dial with the pair of terminals at 12 oclock) the bullet connector on the left should be the black/white and the one on the right should be the greens (or white?) ???

on the original rev counter
two greens on a spade conector
red to the bulb
black to the case on a spade
white and grey to a bullet connector
on the pre 74 rev counter
all as above but another white wire on a extra bullet connector
this is not a problem of where the existing wires go but where the extra bullet connector with a white wire should be connected to
Cheers
