Indicators stopped working
Hi All<br>

The indicators in my '72 1500 had started to fail intermittently so I did a search on here and read about the hazards switch needing to be in the 'sweet spot' in order for the indies to work. The hazards didn't work either until I gave the switch a wiggle and a press and then they did work for one flash until the switch snapped!<br>
<br>
Have glued that back together but obviously it's now a bit fragile and I can't find the sweet spot again.<br>
<br>
Does anyone still make/supply brand new switches to replace it with and rule this out as the cause of the indicator fault (or better, fix it!)? There are a couple cheap on ebay but they're used so will probably be broken too!<br>

Indicators & Hazards
Two seperate flasher units IIRC.<br>

Indicators - duff F'unit, column switch, bad earth<br>
<br>
Hazards, duff F'unit, dash switch, bad earth<br>
<br>
Club does a nice little electronic flasher unit, easy to fit and will sort your indicators providing column switch and earths are OK.<br>

Are you getting good volts from your alternator? If your belt is slipping or if the alternator is faulty, the indicators can blink very slowly or not at all.

Mine has the hazard switch down by the driver's right knee. It looks the same as the pics I've seen on Ebay for Triumph switches so I guess someone has added it some point long ago. <br>

There are loads of wires going to the back of said switch which I thought indicated some strange arrangement of the indicator power going through it; I'm sure I read something along those lines on here.<br>

It has been through flasher units before I'm told (it's actually my Mum's car, I've just started driving and maintaining it) and I have been planning on putting some new earth leads about the place (primarily to help the wipers which need to 'warm up' before working). I'll try those 2 first then but I'm still very suspicious of that switch.<br>

swich should come out of dash so it has been added.<br>
take out the switch and all the wiring going to it , re earth the flasher unit and check the fuse box as these are prone to playing up (corroded/dirty terminals).and extra earths as you say on wipers, indicators ect. also check the alternator and battery connections.<br>

Just to update - new indicator flasher unit was all that was needed. Haven't taken the hazard switch out yet but will do so there's no chance of overloading the new flasher relay.<br>

Dodgy hazards
This thread caught my eye this evening. I have had a problem very similar to this for a few years but never thought I'd get it sorted - none of the leccy boffins I know seem to throw any good pointers up. The basic problem is if I put the hazards on (either for an instant or any length of time) then try to put the indicators on, the indicators won't work! The indicators tend to work fine otherwise - although I did fit one of the uprated units which were recommended by some one a while back (I've got a Ford unit) and the indicator flash rate is good with brakes and other systems on. I have to tell my MOT man that if he wants to test both then please don't test the hazards first! The time between the indicators coming back into use after the hazards could be minutes or hours and not sure why - even I turn ign off and disconnect battery and reconnect everything and then turn indicators on. Weeeiiirrdd man!!<br>

It's easy
The problem that you are suffering is easy to sort out.<br>
The hazard switch disconnects the normal indicators, otherwise you can get a back feed through the indicators to the ignition circuit. Worst case is dirty contacts on the back of the switch. Get some contact cleaner, or WD40, give the contacts a blast, and work the switch a few times. You should be OK then<br>

Its easy
Thanks BWJ - I'll give that a go tomorrow. Wot with my wiper parking problem sorted, my horns that would work only intermittently sorted (just crimped up the contacts to make them tight) - as they say everything happens in threes. Now what else can I throw in for discussion?
