Oil leak problem

#1 Post by Kehoemj » Sat Jan 17, 2004 6:17 pm

I have a major oil leak from the gearbox on my sprint. A gasket or seal probably needs replacing, & the car gudders in first gear, so I assume some of the oil has leaked onto the clutch.<br>

Has anybody experience of resolving this problem & how much would I expect a garage to charge me ?

Leak n judder

The two might not be connected. Whearabouts is the oil coming from?. It could be engine oil from the rear crank seal that is running down the adaptor plate. The judder is quire common on Sprints. A prop center support bush/bearing that is past its first flush of youth can contribute. The best way to deal with fixing a leak on gerbox front seal or crank rear seal it is to hoist the whole power unit out in one go. Beware of any garages that think you can get a Sprint box out from underneath or even into the car itself by removing the transmiision tunnel. You can, just get the box out below by dropping the subframe rear mounts but it is tight and a right game. There is no way a sprint box will come up into the car iteslf by removing transmiision tunnel.

Sounds like the rear crank oil seal. Mine went several months back and had the same symptons as oil was leaking onto the clutch as well as making a fine mess on the path. Definitely a dropped gearbox so cure.
