Intriguing waterpump problem....

#1 Post by alun n » Sun Jan 18, 2004 11:28 pm

.....either in ignorance or in his haste to strip all bits off the car I recently bought, the PO has sheared off the waterpump LH bolt at the shoulder well within the shaft itself so I can't easily weld something to it to facilitate removal.

Any suggestions how to get it out? Do they make 'easy-outs' for LH threads? Don't particularly want to drill it out or weld to the shaft itself as otherwise the pump seems in good order. Can't weld to the impellar as its cast iron. Its a 12 vane so there is insufficient shoulder for mole grips or similar.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Why use an easy out....

Just drill and tap with an ordinary right hand threaded bolt. As you do it up you'll undo the remains of the pump bolt...
Or you'll then have something to yank upwards with...
Jon; practical (and economic) as ever!! If it doesn't work then I can still use Phil's referencing and get the 'easy out'<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
