Engine Height - will bonnet close???

#1 Post by sebking » Fri Feb 06, 2004 8:50 am

have dropped the sprint engine back in - seems rather high can this be right. All mounts line up fine but the top of the filler cap looks just a little bit high...
Are the mountings the right way up ?? There's a semi-circular notch which should be on the top of the mounting towards the front of the car.

Manual followed

Have followed it , notches in right place etc - taken them out, twice, checked again and replaced, also tried them the wrong way round too for comparison.

All very odd.
Silly question, have you tried closing the bonnet?

From the side of the car look across & line up the tops of the wings. Does the filler cap stick up above the wings?

Bonnnet

#6 Post by sebking » Fri Feb 06, 2004 1:12 pm

The bonnet is wrapped in a blanket and leaning up against the wall... It does look as of the top of the filler is just proud of the edge of the wings.

Have tried jumping on the engine too...

I just want to make sure all is well before I start putting all the carbs etc back on - the hoist needs to go back to the hire shop on Saturday...
Just....

lay the bonnet on...tuck the hinges under. You'll soon feel if its resting on the engine. IIRC it does look a bit high with the bonnet off but it should fit okay.
I thought it was just an `L' (nit picking or what).

I think you're right Jonners, it does look a bit high, but it will be ok Seb, honest.

Too high?

#10 Post by Resko » Fri Feb 06, 2004 8:08 pm

When i replaced my engine and gearbox mounts..my engine was indeed too high.I thought i had got the mounts the wrong way round until Jonners then pointed out that my engine stabilizer was too loose! Could it be that? It was VERY satisfying to see the engine lower down when i tightened it up i can tell you<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
my dolly came with bulge in bonnet which is exactly over oil cap (thats project no 6738 on my list of things to do.)
i thought someone had just closed the bonnet without the filler cap being done up
#12 Post by sebking » Mon Feb 16, 2004 9:43 am

From every angle it looks wrong until you look at the bonnet which is obviously not flat!

Anyway - it shuts.
