We have been using ceramic coating both on the inside and outside of the exhaust manifold, and engine pipes on our race cars for several years. The manifold was "slightly" reworked internally to help breathing before the coating. The manifolds that were coated had been on the cars for many years. It is chemically cleaned before treatment, was coated in bright silver and has not deteriorated at all, it except for oil stains from leaks.
A good friend who owns an exhaust business swears by ceramic coating, but is reluctant to wrap them, due the pipes run considerably hotter. This can cause the the metal to crystallize which weakens the structure of the metal and reduces the life of the exhaust to a very short time.

Re: Ceramic Coating
Mark L - do you have a way to get manifolds ceramic coated here in Aus.? And at what price? Also does it really reduce the engine bay temps?

Scott -normally I would have said yes but if you read back I'm in Western Australia so it's not practical ! I was hoping to maybe sit on the back of a wider UK order but if Mark L has a contact here maybe it's not necessary
Re: Ceramic Coating
Sorry Mark,

Not paying much attention there. I get tunnell vision when it comes to tuning parts etc.

Mark/Phil,

Did you have the manifold bored out slightly before having it internally coated? Unfortunately, I have to have things spelt out for me!

Cheers,
Re: Ceramic Coating
For ceramic coating in Australia, we have been using HPC in Melbourne. I believe that that do all the ceramic coating for Holden Racing Team. I would suggest that there could be someone in WA who could help. Shop around before sending your parts to the east.
Scott. We have done some "reworking" internally on the manifold, paying particular attention to the outlet to the down pipe. A high speed grinder and grinding stones do wonder.
exhaust wrap
I would steer well clear of wrapping the exhaust as all my the times i have had to work with it i have been taking it off as it has rotted the pipes by holing moisture or burnt valves by not letting the heat escape, it does stop over heating under the bonnet but i would go for careful air ducting
