maaaaassssive oil leak

Well - New engine is in an running, quick peak underneath and how much oil coming out from the join between the pump and the block!!!! (Sprint recon from robbers)<br>

Any ideas - checked tightness of bolts and they ain't getting any tighter.<br>

Did you use a new O ring gasket?

Pump was attached to block when it arrived, I dropped the hex rod in from the top so never removed the pump - How big is the O ring. I kind of assumed that If rimmers had supplied the block with the pump attached I could just leave it in place...

It sits half recessed in the mating face of the pump housing, from memory its about the size of a coffee mug top. When the pump is torqued up if this O ring gets distorted or nipped it could leak quite prolifically.

I know this doesn't help much but one would assume the pump fitted by Robbers would have an O ring. But in my experience it pays to check these things out yourself.<br>

....equally one could be guilty of assuming the bench test which they purport to put their recon engines through would highlight such a leak and cause it to be rectified!!!!!

But you'll have to contact Rimmers. Should have a 12 month guarantee?<br>

I can't see them paying to trailer it to them or for the labour to take it out and send it back, so you want them to agree to you investigating it and them sending the necessary replacement parts. <br>

You would think that after reconditioning a couple of engines they would get the hang of it!

Has the car been laid up for a period of time? If so check your cam cover to carb breather lines (especially the metal 4-way thinger). Took pump off last night, checked mating surfaces and replaced O ring with new one. Will fill up and run tonight and report back to the board and Rimmers if appropriate. There was a replacement O ring in the 'install kit - so that may be some sort of giveaway!<br>

Actually it was coming out from the fuel pump gasket, leaking down the side and running over the pump - it sooooo looked like the pump.<br>
<br>
Changed O ring anyway from spares stock. Leak only happened after the engine was switched off and not at idle. oh well - see my next thread about the fuel pump woes.<br>
