sprint exhaust diameter
Re: sprint exhaust diameter
Mart, I don't think yours is conservative, its probably about rightcomparible to how mine was (rr at 145rwbhp, est 178bhp flywheel). Yours doesnt seem to bounce off the limiter so much as my old STR91 set up did although you've got much more low end torque. Probably all in the valve timing.

As for exhausts, I ran a standard falcon sports system (modified to actually fit). I've never heard of the sports system causing a restriction.

With my XE conversion the recommendation has been not to exceed 2.25" diameter unless I'm planning going down the blown C20LET engine route (which I'm not at the moment).

The 2.25" set up is supposed to be OK for well over 230bhp so my 200bhp intentions are well within limits. I probably could have gone down the 2" route as well but the manifold only comes in 2.25" or 2.5" flavours.

Scary XE powered 1974 Dolomite Sprint Trackday Experiment. Maybe someday soon
2002 Octavia VRS - 20 valves, leather, a turbo and 146mph - Czech it out!!

no secrets in kevs world...

as scott says, my lump was re-worked by cov eng serv via jigsaw.

carbs are fully refurbed weber dcoe45's with bling bling ram pipes, however they may get socked and possibly fed with strategically routed 'cold air' pipes, DB home made spec. Jigsaw ported the head, matched to inlet (which had smoothed slightly worked on ports, not polished), tuftrided crank, blah blah, pretty much all stage 2 spec. flywheel lightened n balanced on crank etc, all standard boy-racer stylee, pretty much about as far as you can go with off the shelf parts without going daft on racey racey stuff, probably similar to yours mart?!

cam is a kent repro, DMS1, similar but marginally different to STR91, hp-wise probably not much to choose between them. sump is same as scotts, dizzy has been recon'd and matched to lump (whatever that involves). also lumenition, 'flame thrower' coil, spal leccy fan, and thats about all I can think of that could possibly make any difference.

mart - its obviously all relative anyway, even if my car made 10hp more than your track car, your track car should p1ss on mine anyway as mine will be full of seats, stereo, wood, trim, bumpers etc etc, and mine wont be at its best until its been serviced a couple of times and properly run in.

I'll be scared to track day her in case I pile her into the tyres or other cars, but im duty bound to take her to santa pod - the main comparison I want to see is orange vs the speedy-mobile, mainly just for a laugh, and apart from that it will probably therefore remain forever an unknown quantity...
project black - coming on, could be sold...
project white - pimp my tolly, next year!

It will sound evil alright...straight after that under axle pipe gets ripped off by the first bump!

Scott what is your exhaust? To me it looked like the standard 1850/sprint centre silencer with some angle pipe coming off it. I do like exhausts me

Re: sprint exhaust diameter
ps - my 180+ flywheel guesstimate comes from previous owner who had my carbs and cam on a different block with normal-ition (as opposed to lumenition), viscous fan, heavier flywheel. he told me he tuned that with the help of john wilcox (now power train projects?) to 183 bhp with timing adjustments and lots of trials with different jets. carbs still have same jets, dont ask me what size, i have no idea...

i also have no idea how accurate his story is but no reason to doubt him, he's usually reliable and true to his word - this is the guy who used to race karts and now has a tvr ive mentioned on here. seeing is believing of course.

apparently his dolly with that set up ran a short 14 sec at santa pod, comfortably beating a sapphire cosworth (for what thats worth ?!) and I did get a few passenger trips in it, and it certainly was pretty lively...

its now all transplanted to my core engine as above, which is different of course to what it was, and theoretically better (or should be when its run in), so if he's speaking the true gospel, then with my added mod's surely I'd be looking at 190+ at flywheel ?!

all speculation at this stage until the fooking thing comes together, I'm looking forward to finding out how good or not it REALLY is, and will gladly report accordingly
Re: sprint exhaust diameter
Ah! right, that's what I wanted to know. I was basing it on a "fast road" cam, so now I wouldn't be surprised at a 180+ figure.

Re: sprint exhaust diameter
interestingly I dont know anyone else with the same cam but it'd be good to find out if anyone else has one fitted?!
