Exhaust manifold

#1 Post by mahony » Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:26 am

were the exhaust manifolds for sprints machined at the factory for the specific head it was matched up with, as they have no gasket as such (mine needs helicoiling and just wondering can i swap with another manifold).

I don't beleive they were matched. No problem using a different manifold.

Not between head and manifold on a sprint, downpipe and manifold theres a gasket.

No Kev, Sprints never had a gasket. Although you can get them from Sprintparts.
looking at the exploded diagram for the manifold it shows a helicoil insert for the thread thats stripped on my own manifold yet i have never seen one listed on any parts list other than the bl parts book, can anyone else remember did they have to fit a helicoil insert into the manifold when changing the downpipe.looking again at the diagram the part number lists three inserts required for the manifold.

exaust manifold gaskets

as explained above, the Sprint was not fietted with an exhaust manifold gasket.

However, should you wish to fit one for whatever reason, they are available from Moss. Cannot remember the part number but think it is a TR7 item?? I used it on a previous Sprint that had a custom 4:1 manifold.
