Uprated Spring (oil pump)
Uprated Spring (oil pump)
Does any one know where to get an uprated oil pump spring from? I've tried Moss but they say they are discontinued (Moss part no. STR560). Also tried Fitchetts.

tried S&S Preparations? They're mainly TR7, but I guess the part is the same.
Hart Racing (Stags). I believe they use a stronger spring.
Re: Uprated Spring
Thanks guys, I phoned S&S but they didn't have one so rang Tony Hart. I'm glad I did now, as he advised not to do it (well maybe on a worn engine). He says they only run their racing Stags up to around 50psi.

Re: Uprated Spring
That seems remarkeably low for an under load figure. Mines anywhere between 35 and 70.
Re: Uprated Spring
I thought that was a bit low too, as I mentioned mine was 70 to 75 psi. Mine had recently dropped to around 60 though but still not bad.

Oil pressures
My 1850 never reads above 50 or below 35. Within tollerance?
Re: Oil pressures
If my Sprint never read above 50 I would be thinking maybe big ends and/or mains or deffo something worn, maybe pump. I would assume similar for an 1850.

Re: Oil pressures
the oil pressure stated in the haynes is 40-60psi at 2000 rpm for both 1850 and Sprint engines.

Well...
John I've seen yours hitting the relief valve nice and early. That's all you want to see.

You dont want it too high or it will blow the oil pump seals.

60 is quite enough....
I'd be happy with 50 on a stag V8 as its got more bearings to blow it out.

My p6 V8 is 25 at cruise and no knocks...
On the Stag engine because of the single timing chain a uprated pump/spring will put extra strain on the tensonier and chain causing premature chain failure if not checked regularly.
From the Stag man himself (Not me).

Err how exactly?
The timing chain tensioners dont have an oil feed nowadays....welll the last few I have done dont and with no ill effects. Even if they did i dont see how some oil squirting through a hole is going to force the tensioner out....it surely only ratchets out when the chain is slack.

That's because they all steered toward's timing belt's.
Having served my apprenticeship with Mazda Car's I'm totally disagree with you.
All use a tensoiner with a click type adjuster that is pushed out by a small oil hole drilled into the block that feed's the tensioner.
Sure the Stag use's the same set up.

It just isn't going to adjust itself when the chain goe's slack.

On Drug's I very much doubt it
