1500HL Head gasket problems

TO ANYONE WILLING TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET ON MY 1500HL!!!!<br>

I DONT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE OR TIME TO DO THIS WORK.!!!!<br>
<br>
THE GUY WHO REBUILT THE SPITFIRE ENGINE WHICH IS IN THE CAR, KEEPS FOBBING ME OFF WITH EXCUSES FOR NOT WANTING TO CHANGE THE GASKET.!!!!<br>
<br>
THE ENGINE COVERED 500MILES AFTER REBUILD. THE SAME GUY, RE-TORQUED THE HEAD, AND RESET THE TAPPETS. ANOTHER 100MILES LATER, MY OIL FILLER CAP IS FULL OF MAYONNAISE, AND THE RADIATOR NEEDS A PINT OF COOLANT AFTER EVERY 20 MILES.<br>

IT COULD BE MY OWN FAULT, AS I DID NOT HAVE THE HEAD SKIMMED.!!!(SOME SAY "WHAT A PLONKER!).<br>

MY NEIGHBOURS WONT STOP TAKING THE PI** , AS I SPEND MORE TIME UNDER THE SODD*** BONNET, THAN DRIVING THE BL***Y CAR.!!!!!<br>

THE CAR IS MY EVERYDAY TRANSPORT ,AND IS NEEDED FOR WORK.!<br>

I know how you feel! Doing the head gasket on mine in driving sleet made me buy a car I could just feed petrol too, ending 6 years of daily Dolomite driving. The headgasket was number 3. Number 1 was the clutch and number 2 was the overdrive/gearbox - all in 3 months<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :rolleyes --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> There are only so many times you can borrow a neighbours car...!<br>

I might be able to help if you are nearby, but as I live in Northumberland that is pretty unlikely......Presumably the "rebuild" included a replacement head gasket, if so I wonder why it went so quickly - was it the correct gasket with the tab (called recessed I think)....<br>

So, its fixed, but there is no way I am going to guarantee the repair.<br>

Whoever rebuilt (and re-torqued) that Spitfire engine for Barry needs shooting. Unpleasant.<br>

I found a porous head gasket and head studs that won't take the proper torque without shearing... I've had a hell of a day today with that 1500. <br>
<br>
Barry, there was no need to skim the head, its like a piece of glass, as is the block - the root of the problem lay in the sub-standard head gasket and crap head studs.<br>

MY APOLOGIES, I DIDN,T REALISE IT WAS SUCH A PAIN IN THE **SE JOB TO DO! ...I,VE RUN THE CAR FOR A WEEK NOW, THE WATER LEVEL IN THE RADIATOR IS AS IT SHOULD BE, AND THE HEATER ON FULL, BURNS YOUR SOCKS OFF EVEN IN THIS COLD WEATHER.!!!<br>

THE CHEAP INFERIOR HEAD GASKET, WAS FITTED BY THE ENGINE BUILDER, AND AS SUCH I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT HEAD SET HAD BEEN USED.<br>

Head Gasket

Do you know what make the head gasket was as I am in the process of changing mine and I have brought a gasket set from Rimmers, but the gaskets do not appear to be as good as quality as previous ones. <br>

The inlet/exhuast manifold gaskets use to be metalised but the new one seem to be a more standard gasket.
