VIN NUmber

#1 Post by adchesney » Wed Mar 10, 2004 8:04 am

I have no paperwork for the two Dolomites I've received.

I have to apply for new V5s at a cost of £19 each!!! But I can not find the VIN number - where is this located and if I can't find it, is there another source for this info (Club Register - RAC, Etc?)

Regards
Vin Plates

#2 Post by SprintV8 » Wed Mar 10, 2004 9:13 am

Number should be on a Alloy plate riveted to the nearside inner wing close to the expasion bottle,

Failing that on later one's (Thank's Alun) stamped inside the boot see earlier thread for exact location.

Not sure if the club can do a search or how about Gaydon Heritage where most of the record's are keeped now?.

Engines changed?

#5 Post by Jon Tilson » Wed Mar 10, 2004 11:40 am

Have both these cars not got the engines they were built with then? Else how can u account for an engine number lower than the chassis number? I'd expect it to be the other way round...few spare engines for testing warranty etc...but I doubt even the Canley mob sold whole engineless Sprints....:-)
Engine No's

#6 Post by mem sec » Wed Mar 10, 2004 12:54 pm

The engine no's sound o.k. I've had at least two cars with engines lower than the vin's 23105 with engine 17579 and 17542 with engine 12504. I always assumed that they just picked one out of a pile and put it into the next car.
VIN - THANK YOU!

#7 Post by adchesney » Wed Mar 10, 2004 1:43 pm

Dear Maurice

Thank you so much for your speedy reply.

I can now send off the V5 in my son's name - not bad, he can own two cars at the age of 14!!

Now this raises some interesting possibilities - can they take action against a "minor" for speeding, parking tickets and the like?? (not that I would do such a thing).

Once again, thank you - Do I owe you any ££ for these searches? (email me at andrew@chesney.org)
