Vin Plate

Telephoned Rimmers this morning, in need of a new Vin plate, I thought they could send me a new blank Vin Plate if I faxed over a copy of my V5. Not any longer came the reply, it turns out I now have to apply to the DVLA for a certificate before Robbers will send me a blank Vin plate WHY? 
 
I will still have a blank Vin plate to stamp whatever I want onto. I could understand if Rimmers stamped the plate with details supplied by DVLA.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin"> 
 
Is this the only way to get a new VIn plate, or is there another avenue open to me?

Try some of the lesser known triumph suppliers for blank plates. They may not be so fussy. 
 
Is this a new law or something? I bought a blank one from Moss around 5 years ago with no paperwork. I thought the illegal bit was stamping incorrect details on it.

Another new Law to STOP, 
Certain people from stealing are Dolomite's in fact any car, 
 
It make's sense if you ever have a Vehicle stolen, 
Or know how easy it is to ring a Vehicle, 
 
Look how hard it should be to get Number Plates made now 
Can Rimmer's not stamp a VIN tag up to your number then, 
Why do you need a Blank VIN tag?. 
Or have I read the Thread wrong again?.

Dolly Mixture issue 101 page 28; Rimmers state that new commission plates are available but that customers must fax or post them a copy of the registration document which Rimmers keeps on their files.If the procedure has changed I think they ought to inform members....

Another stupid law that inconveniences the honest person. As if someone ringing vehicles couldn't get his hands on some chassis plates. Same applies to the registration plate rules. 
 
Is this one any good?

There's loads on ebay but I can't see any dolly ones. Fancy converting it into a Jag XK120??(joking of course).

Vin plate in the post, no ID or V5. A little worrying it was so easy to get hold of a blank Vin plate. 
 
I don't need a blank plate, but as I understand it that is all that is supplied. Yet another job for the bodyshop <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Which plate are you getting Maurice? 
 
Is it the same as the one on Ebay (that Jonners has already pounced on) or the sprint one? 
 
I need one for my 15HL as I cant NCT (MOT) it until I get one.

Its a Sprint plate. I have the phone number of the company that can supply new plates, but its at work, I will put the phone number on the board in the morning.

I'm in the same position. I have a car that lost its inner wing and vin plate in an accident years ago and need this one for the next MoT as my tester has said they are hotting up. He let it through with the log book last year.

VIN Number is required on all Vehicles first used on or after the 1st August 1980. 
 
Couple of exception's one being Kit car's 
 
That's from the MOT manual dare say the 
Vehicle Inspectorate 
can change they mind at any time. 
 
I'll check the latest note's in the next couple of day's

VIN number is confirmed 1st used on or after the 1st August 1980 Need a VIN number, 
Vehicles before that date at the moment do not, 
Worth taking the Log (V5) Book 
To confirm reg date 
 
Will post a update if it change's.
