Now that TDCIR 2005 has taken place, we'd very much appreciate your views on what you thought of this year's event so that we can begin planning next year's TDCIR. We'd be very grateful if you could answer the questions below, either by posting your responses on the forum, or by emailing us. You can also write to us at the club address or even fax us. If you wish to remain anonymous, we will respect that. Just logout of the Ezboard system and then return to the forum via the link on the TDC Homepage before posting your reply.

1.Did you attend TDCIR at Himley Hall? 
 
2.If you DIDN'T attend, what were your reasons for not doing so (e.g. work/family commitments, attended another event, too far to travel etc etc)? Please list. 
 
3.Was this TDCIR the first one which you have attended? 
 
4.If you have attended previous events, overall how did you feel that TDCIR 2005 compared with them? 
 
5.With regard to the venue (Himley Hall), did you feel that it was suitable for TDCIR in terms of ease of access (was it easy to get to), facilities, activities for younger family members etc? 
 
6.Do you feel that having other makes of car and other clubs present was a bonus or would you have preferred a "standalone" Dolomite Club or Triumph-only event?

2. I didn't attend as it clashed with the Inter County Tenpin Bowling Tournament for the second year running. Otherwise I would have attended both times. Next year I think I will be there whether it clashes or not.

From my experience, more the merrier

I dont know what was there but I'd like to see more action at car shows e.g. a short demo area in a car park rather than just showing cars off

No but I can see how it may deter fair weather punters 
 
14.Would you be willing to help out in running the event on the day? 
 
yes - depending on Venue location

Not sure about a full weekend, but the ability to camp over the night before would be good

7- not that I can think of, although im not sure if smifter was getting at some kind of 'donut arena', but cool, yep, good idea, with or without the donuts. not sure the park keepers would be all that happy about it though! 
8- n/a really, didnt take a dolly, didnt see the judging, not aware of results

I would come on a Saturday to anywhere in reason.

My feedback: 
 
1. Yes 
2. n/a 
3. No 
4. Not as good as earlier SODIT's or TDCIR purely because of the reduction in numbers - by this I mean both fewer cars of our club being kept alive as well as those not attending for whatever reason, but better than Beale Park, even though this was a mixed Triumph gathering. 
5. Himley was a really good setting. I didn't get chance to take a look round at the Hall, lake or grounds but if this venue is used again will certainly do so. There was a very large selection of other vehicles of interest - always good. My only gripe is the lack of signposting in the immediate area of Himley advertising or directing the cars to the venue. 
6. Other makes definitely a bonus. 
7. None that I can think of

9. Attended by myself.

11. Yes 
12. I think that as numbers seem to be dwindling perhaps it might be worth suggesting re-visiting some of the more popular venues of the past eg Beaulieu, Duxford, Gaydon etc. 
13. Living at almost the other end of the country I would find it difficult to arrive in time for the beginning of an event.

15. Undecided. I have two dogs which, because they are white and my interior is black, I don't normally bring them out as it would take me a week to hoover the car out so that means kennels for two or three days which works out expensive. 
16. None for now! other than thanks to the committee for putting on a good show.

Venue was fine distance about the limit for a one day event for me (325mile round trip). Facilities good -

Good to be with other clubs etc - lots to see and do

Other possible venues could be Amberley Museum in Sussex - they haevan annual Classic Car Picnis - great event and in some years a car club has its annual ralley at the same time.

Variety is a better. Gives us a chance to educate the ignorant!

After the top 2 cars have been decided informally by the judge, have it put over to attendees to put into a hat their vote for the best car.

They have at past events despite the cars being there!

I can see it makes sense but I did get the feeling that not many had been pre-ordered. Some people might not bother going if they think that take-up has been low. 
 
11.Were you happy with the timing of TDCIR or would you prefer it to take place at another time of year? 
My bit of pub psychology but I think people are keener to get out in their cars earlier in the Summer. Plus, the day before schools go back is quite hectic for most families. 
 
12.Can you suggest a suitable venue for next year's TDCIR? 
Billing Aquadrome in Northampton. Loads of camping, static caravans for £15 a night, loads for kids to do. Oh and make it a weekend so that we can have a club barbeque and drinks. 
 
13.Would you be willing to help organise the event? 
Yes. I've just organised a golf trip to Dublin for 4 people so I'm probably over-qualified! 
 
14.Would you be willing to help out in running the event on the day? 
Yes. Providing someone looks after my kids

Enjoy the Drive (Convoy) 
Enjoy meeting fellow enthusiasts 
Enjoy the Hospitality 
Enjoy the Cars

Gaydon, Himley, Cosford, Duxford, Hatton, Ferry Meadows, Beale, Malvern, Bromley, Syon Park, Santa Pod, Sandown, Nat ag Kenilworth, Cov Museum, Severn Bridge the list goes on, not been to a bad event yet (even Malvern in the rain was enjoyable, just not as enjoyable as in the sun).

I think it was better than last year, the venue was more pleasant IMO.

Not too bad, could have done with more toilets (I counted 6)

The TDC was fairly insular at the end of the field, it was nice to have everyone in a group but at the same time it would have been nice to have been more a part of the meeting.

as mentioned earlier, the only action I saw was Alun's car being polished (though not to denigrate Jod's efforts; I didn't think it was the same car when he'd finished). Some kind of driving event, be it auto-test, regularity run, or treasure hunt might make for an exciting time.

I think the previous suggestion for a names-in-a-hat prize would be nice.

Not at all. I wasn't sure if I would be able to come, but the on the door price did not put me off.

As said earlier, the last weekend before school is a problem for some. Perhaps some time in July?

Haynes Sparkford Motor Museum, Yeovil.

Yes.

Maybe. I Think I'd like the idea of "circling the waggons" and having a campfire and some beer.

3. First TDCIR, went to a couple of SODITs. 
4. Can't really say, don't recall the SODITs that well. 
5. Yes. 
6. It's a two edged sword. A dolly only event would draw very few non dolly owning visitors. By combining with a general classic car show a hell of a lot of other classic owners and non classic owning joe public saw our cars. If just one of them saves a dolly as a result it was worthwhile. On the other hand the location was not of great interest to me. I can go to very many far bigger shows with a fraction of the travelling to see all that was outside the Dolomite Club area. 
7. I'd have liked to see more of the famous Dollies. Selfish I know because their owners have a life too but you did ask for my opinion! I liked the informal park anywhere layout but how about an organised model range lineup? 
8. Can't think of anything to beat <a href="http://p206.ezboard.com/fthetriumphdolo ...  suggestion from Neil.

11. Seems fine to me. 
12. Gaydon and the Haynes museum have been suggested and are both on my list of places to see as are Duxford, Beaulieu, Canleys, Beamish, Cars of the Stars and many more. How about alternating between this type of location that would maximise outward interest for us and the Himley show type location that maximises the number of potentially interested punters into the dolly area? 
13. Happy to do what I can but the nature of my work means I can't be relied upon (overseas for weeks or months at a time usually with little or no notice). 
14. Yup. 
15. I think it should stay a one day event but move to a Saturday. People could then travel part way on the Friday evening. Groups and convoys could form from more areas of the country B&Bing Friday night if the distance is great. People then have the whole of Sunday to travel home. Having to get home from 4pm Sunday does put a limit on the range people can travel from. Having it on a Saturday gives people the option to extend the event both before and after the official part if they wish. How about a semi official BBQ and camping Saturday evening? 
16. Nothing else springs to mind. 
 
Lastly, damn good job and thankyou to all the orgnaisers.

2. Prior commitment. I had to do some paintwork on my girlfriends step fathers car. 
 
6. I think it`s great that there was a variety of cars, it`s good to see cars from other marques to see how inferior they are!!!! 
 
8. Don`t really go in for all the polishing and stuff except the paintwork of course. I like cars to look lived in, after all they are not new anymore. But if thats what floats ya boat!!!! 
 
9. My girlfriend would come along but she would just irritate me after a while so I would really want to leave her at home, my dad would go and enjoy it but he`s too difficult to pin down at the weekends, the rest of the family aren`t interested and my mates think I just drive crap old cars.(no style) 
 
10. Not at all. I can see it gives the club an idea of how many people are going to turn up. 
 
11. Seems like a pretty good time of year to hold the event. 
 
12. Fort Brockhurst in Gosport. I went to an American car show here, it was quite a strange experience being inside a fort. Explosion also in Gosport, this is a miltary museum, greaqt venue, lots to look at. 
 
13. Seriously you wouldn`t want my help here. I couldn`t organise a pi$$ up in a brewery. 
 
14. Yes so long as i`m told what to do. 
 
15. Perhaps not a whole weekend but I do agree with Jonners a saturday event would be nice.
