Feedback

#16 Post by stuckinthird » Thu Sep 08, 2005 9:28 am

This is all very serious! And there was me thinking it was meant to be fun! Hope the following will be helpful.

1.Did you attend TDCIR at Himley Hall?
2.If you DIDN'T attend, what were your reasons for not doing so (e.g. work/family commitments, attended another event, too far to travel etc etc)? Please list.
3.Was this TDCIR the first one which you have attended?

It was the first one that I’ve attended. There are loads and loads of shows all over the UK so maybe people just go to the ones that are near to them.

4.If you have attended previous events, overall how did you feel that TDCIR 2005 compared with them?

I’ve been to quite a few car shows, a couple with other clubs. They tend to fall into types. This was a “nice cars/ nice green field/ nice area” type show. These shows are fine but there are lots of them. Not having been before I was very impressed to see so many Dolomites and surprised to hear that this was a lower than expected turnout. If ebay & breaking continues at current speeds numbers will surely fall over time?
The best show that I ever went to was at Silverstone. They had lots of clubs present with their own stands with shiny cars. Lots of car related products on sale. No old pottery stalls but most importantly a rally track and classic car racing.

5.With regard to the venue (Himley Hall), did you feel that it was suitable for TDCIR in terms of ease of access (was it easy to get to), facilities, activities for younger family members etc?

Venue was good if poorly signed. Possibly being in the middle of things would have been better but then you could not have moved the fences back! We did feel a little separated (deliberately?) Awards were being presented on our stand whilst the main awards ceremony was going on up the other end! Tree cover was good I don’t like to line the troops up in the blazing sun. Drinks and food were expensive and not great but that is the nature of the beast.

6.Do you feel that having other makes of car and other clubs present was a bonus or would you have preferred a "standalone" Dolomite Club or Triumph-only event?

One make shows are boring. I can only look at so many of the same car on the same day.

7.Were there activities or features of the show which weren't there and which you would have liked to have been available? (Please list any).

See above
On a more radical note I would have liked to see a “workshop” going on. Being a complete beginner it would have been great to have seen the masters at work. “How do you fit them Polybushes again..?” etc. If you want to go the whole hog talks/Q&A with ex BL people and the showing of publicity films would probably make the whole thing way too serious.

8.With regard to the informal concours competition, were you satisfied with how it was carried out? If not, please list reasons why you were dissatisfied and if possible suggest ideas for how it could be improved.

Concours not really my thing. One thing that can be quite fun can be to have a knowledgeable celebrity judge – i.e. a person who is key to the history of the car. Classic Ford at Santa Pod went round with a microphone and spoke to the owners asking about the cars. This would have been interesting.

10.Did being asked to apply for advance tickets deter you from attending TDCIR this year?

If you are wondering about numbers it may be that the Internet forum/site is a double-edged sword with some people becoming very involved whilst others feel distanced from what is going on. Personally for me it made little difference.

11.Were you happy with the timing of TDCIR or would you prefer it to take place at another time of year?
12.Can you suggest a suitable venue for next year's TDCIR?

Timing fine. Please keep it in the middle of the country.

13.Would you be willing to help organise the event?
14.Would you be willing to help out in running the event on the day?

Doubtless the event is going to be quite a way from here wherever it is run as many members seemed to live either in the middle of the UK or below it and not many above it. I would however be willing to chase members this end to go and to contribute to the video.

15.In your opinion, would having a weekend-long event offer more incentive to attend than a one day event?
16.If you have any other comments to make regarding either TDCIR 2005 or on future events, please list them here.

Offering camping overnight would be fun as we could do a few beers (music-andy?) etc. It would also break the driving over two days.
No did not attend - sorry - due to family commitments (sorting out wedding=there goes next years allocation of garage trips!) plus inconvenient 0500 start at work the next day some 250miles from home = poo.

Yes am prepared to help in future so long as work plays ball.

Couple weeks earlier or later would suit me better.

I hereby do promise that the car will be finished for next year. Esp if Jod promises a mega breakfast<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
