Just a tip or two Jeff;

Consider having a range of jobs to get done, even if only on one car as 'many hands' can only reach limited areas as the bodies get in the way.

As a fall back last year, even though we had two cars I took some 'off the car' jobs to keep the stand active...alloy wheels to polish etc

Al Williams may not agree, but its a long day, plan for the whole day. No good getting the job done by 2pm...

The vinyl roof is a good idea, it will employ several hands and be something different that will make the public and judges sit up in awe...I think you'll need something else too.

You need 'visible' jobs

Do you have room for two cars again?

Yep, looks like you have the option. Either a 4m x 2m or 4m x 4m. What was it last year, did we have 2of 4x4?

Point taken re the jobs, suppose we could do some individual panel jobs, i.e; boot lid, bonnet or door?

Well, I ordered the vinyl, 2.5m by 54" from Martrim Coach Trimming Supplies in Middlewich, Cheshire (Tel: 01270 767771) - Specified as EV Grain. Yes, I did mix imperial and metric. Details found in the archive

The front screen shouldn't be a problem, It has only been in for a month on a new rubber and chrome, so should come out easily enough.

Now, the BIG question. IF my car is to be one of the projects at the Restoration Show, should I do the removal of the old vinyl (I have a couple of days free next week), or should we do it all in one go at the show. I'm not fussed either way to be honest, and I think it would be nice to have a "clean canvas" to work off at the show, but I am wondering how long the fitment would take, as we don't want to have the job finished by midday.

I am going to be naughty and cross post this, just to make sure the right eyes see it/take notice.

Added into this: I can fetch some Micromesh for the wheels if we are to do that again, but I can't get it on the roll (nudges Al Williams). I will definately be able to supply the consumables again (blue roll, rag, gloves etc etc), plus welding screen, but if I am coming in my own car, the amount of tooling I can fetch will be limited of course.

Jeff, if you are coming to TDCIR I suggest a meeting of the willing workers would be a good idea, so we can get a few lists of items to bring, jobs to do, tooling, etc etc etc.

Ahhh....and I think I still have a bag of the name tags, just need someone to be able to print off the tags. They added the professional touch and could be worth that extra tick in the box from the judges.....

Yep, i'll be there at the TDCIR. All willing personnel can discuss ideas there. Though i do need to send off the application form for the club indicating what size pitch we need. Last yr i reckon we had two of the 4x4 pitches, i believe we should go for this again unless we have less volunteers/projects.

Suggestions welcome.
Is anyone halfway through an engine build? Putting shiny bits together makes good show material.
I won't be there, but give me a list of 'delegates' and I'll print off the name badges, as I found last year's file on an old Macintosh last evening. I can either post them to Jeff or Susie can bring them...
Resto Show

#24 Post by jeffclane » Mon Sep 18, 2006 7:52 am

By the looks of things we're gonna have just the one car on the stand (Rich's). That should give us a good few hrs work on the vinyl roof replacement, then suggest we have a few sprint alloys to refurb.

Those who are coming could you pls email me on jeff at lane5026 dot freeserve dot co dot uk.

If you could all get in touch this wk it should help as we need to confirm numbers and agree whos gonna bring what etc

Just had a thought, i have 3 doors which i havent got rnd to swapping over, boot, bonnet and also windscreen needs swapping. If we can replace all the seals for the glass, that should take a few hrs... I'm sure i can think of summit else too before the show... what do you all reckon?

Many thanks
Jeff
Thanks Andy, though we're still in need of a few more, whos available on the 1st October? It's a good show and you'll be helping fellow club members with their cars. You'll also get free entry to the show. Post a reply here or contact me on my email as posted earlier on this thread.
Looks like I'll only be able to stay until midday I think. I've got a band practice but none of the others like to play loud music until after a big sunday lunch. What time do we need to be at stoneleigh for?
