Re: Stoneliegh Restoration Show: 01 October 2006
We now have the passes and some info about the show;
There are 3 vehicle passes - these are to get cars in through the exhibitor's entrance and if necessary into the hall itself (for unloading etc). You may need to check if more passes are needed Jeff, ring Vintage & Classic Events to confirm.
There are around 10 exhibitor's passes, these are needed to gain entry to the hall for setting up. Everyone working on the stand needs one. We can order more if necessary, the club will pay for them. Setting up times are Saturday 2pm - 9pm (approx) and Sunday 7.30am - 9.30am. All exhibitors must be in the hall by 9.30am (exhibitor's passes not valid after that time) and setting up completed. Doors open to visitors at 10am, show ends at 5pm.
The stand size is 8m x 6m, electric is provided.
Re: Stoneliegh Restoration Show: 01 October 2006
I've spoken to Vintage & Classic Events, we're ok to have more cars in to unload if required.

We still could do with a few extra hands, anyone feeling the need to help out?

I'll be going over on the saturday to unload some gear. Will advise the location to meet up ASAP, (it'll be the same garage as last yr to those that were there) just need to pinpoint it on the map. It'll be 7.30am meet by the way.

Current confirmed attendees;

Jeff
Susie
Malcom
Richie
Nathan
Dave Poth
Richard4040
Scott
Justyn (maybe)

Thanks
It looks like I'll be playing taxi for Richard4040 and 2FAST4U this weekend, so I shan't be in Stoneleigh until Lunchtime. Make sure to leave some wheels to polish for them, I'll be bringing the Micromesh...

Re: Stoneliegh Restoration Show: 01 October 2006
Its a good job that we are a club with a hearty supply of cars that need restoration! Judging by some of the clubs, you would think that it was the 'National Restored Show'!

Thoroughly enjoyable day, even the 80 mile blat to pick up a screen from Alun for Richie's car afters his original screen cracked upon removal. Nice to see some old friends and some new ones. Well done to everyone, I'll bet there will be a few sore heads this evening due to the amount of thinners, paint and adhesive that was inhaled during the course of the day.
looked like the crew were properly getting stuck into it. compared with other club stands, 'our' stand always seems to be the one 'properly grafting' through the day...

there always seems to be a great team spirit and thats down the people
Was a good day, the vinyl roof job was a great result, i reckon that could be the first of many.

Cheers to everyone for your help, especially at the end of play when it was looking likely that i would be going home without a windscreen!

Thanks
Thanks!!!
First of all, the thanks. Thanks to all who organised it and all who turned up to graft. A special big thanks to Alun for his mercy dash from Cardiff, and Scott for racing round Birmingham to collect the new windscreen.

I honestly thought the day was going to be "one of those". As I was climbing the hill on the M42 before the services, my car developed a bit of a backfire, and a "higher than usual" temperature reading.... . Ok, so I had done a little bit over the speed limit all the way from Ross, but it was early sunday morning, so I thought I would push her a bit. I pulled over, lifted the bonnet, but couldn't see anything wrong. I sat with my head in my hands for a few minutes, trying to decide what to do, then in the end, decided to start her back up, and drive slowly to the services, and have another look. The temperature remained normal, and no backfiring, so I carried on all the way to Stoneleigh, with a considerably lighter right foot, and one eye on the temp gauge. When we got there, Phil, Malc and Scott all crowded round, not lost water (apart from a small leak from the thermostat gasket which has been there a while admittedly), and the oil looked fine. Bizarre. Malc nipped up the inlet fannymould, a couple of bolts were needing it, me and Phil whipped out the plugs, #1 and #2 looked a little dirty, but nothing extreme, so we swapped them for #3 and #4, and decided to leave it for the day.

Malc and Phil get busy with the roof prep. I don't know how he did it, but Malc managed to get his best sunday T-Shirt covered in Carmine rubbings, and made a good impression of an axe murderer...

The finished roof (the white mark is just dust)...for a bunch of guys who have never done this before, the finish was very professional, which I am sure went some way towards us getting this:

SHOW ME THE MONEY

As has been mentioned, having a little look round the show whilst the paint was drying, a lot of other clubs seem to bring amazingly restored classics to the show, park them up, then sit round drinking tea and discussing jolly japes. Fair enough, if thats what they want to do, crack on. I fully beleive the reason why we won second last year, and first this year, is because we turn up with cars the need restoring, and do something that will amuse the public. You wouldn't beleive how many people were standing around waiting for us to screw the roof up, almost as many who watched Al Williams take a Senger Saw to his 1500's roof last year. Far more interesting than just looking at a well restored car.

Long may this tradition continue! As has already been mentioned, luckily we have plenty of cars that need restoring....

Quote of the day goes to Malc though, with reference to the comment I made about it looking like an elephants genitals:

Quote:
Say No To Scrotum!!!

Once again, a great day, great people, and makes me proud to be a member of a great club. Thanks !!

uhm, I got home ok as well, the car performed flawlessly. Lesson learnt, do not travel around at an indicated XXmph, especially when Dave Poth reckons your speedo underreads by 10 mph as well...
[edit] just checked the water and oil. Has used none, leak that I thought was from the thermostat gasket has dissapeared, wierd. Ticks over lower now, maybe nipping up the inlet manifold has removed extra air being sucked in, causing it to tickover too high? Almost stalls at roundabouts/junctions, I'll see how it goes.

Re: Chris Dickinsons 1850
Could well be enough. Plus an air leak would mean you would be running lean under heavy load, hence the overheating.

Great Day
Really enjoyed today chaps. When we were handed the award the presenter said "Dolly Club, always put on an excellent display".
The crowd gathered as predicted when the glue wafted across the hall. Re: hmm
The issues with Jeffs windscreen were due to an excessively large amount of silicone sealant having been splodged there to fit the last screen, compounded by the fact that Winns appear to have supplied him the wrong rubber. That'll teach him to gloat about it being £12 cheaper than I paid for mine.... .

Goggles were not required for either Dolomite drivers, but it was a close run thing. There was an annoying guy shouting at the door for everyone to leave. I wanted to threaten him with a pair of pliers and an old rubber floor mat I had in my boot, but Malc talked me out of it, and he will live to see another sunrise. I think he was intimidated by the obvious stubborn and pig-headed attitude of your average Dolly Club member, and he minced off while we still had both screens to fit.
