Re: Motors
Oh, alright then, seeing as this thread seems to be going somewhere :-

1963 Ford Cortina 1500 super. Bench seat front and column gear change - great for nocturnal activities with the girls - was linked in with a robbery in east end of London to try and fund a "job" to break the Cray twins out from gaol back in the late sixties. Rolled it on black ice in Nov '70 (I think) and got all my insurance money back when the Vehicle & General ins co folded in the same week!!

1971 Mini Clubman 1275GT. Converted to 'S' spec in '72. Used for club rallying fitted it with twin tanks, roll cage, sump guard, Minilites, Cibies - all the standard mini bits of the time. This went like stink and had insurance premiums to match! Group 7 in London - same as for Bentleys and Jags etc!! (something to do with the final drive and power at the wheels - the buggers!)

1974 - Triumph Dolomite Sprint - Had it ever since. Well, what can one say!! Never too old (or young) to drive a Sprint!!

After reading your little black book of cars Martin, I'm suprised you have to resort to this. You have owned some very nice cars, damn you!!

I've wanted a 1300TC for years. My dad had one when I was 5. Loved the globes on the wheel trims!
Here goes....
apart from the 17 listed in the other thread...

1958 Riley 1.5 first car taught me a lot and the emaning of rust...
1959 Riley 4/68 Magic interior...and more rust. One of my all time great auto loves...stranglely not that well thought of as a tarted up Farina.
1958 MG ZB Varitone...Still have it
1958 MG ZB Varitone...stolen while at Uni. I will find you!
1958 MG ZB Varitine...sprayed it badly and flogged on.
1958 MG ZB still in bits
1957 Wolsely 15/50 bought for holiday and wedding then stolen!
1967 Jaguar 420 -co owned with Uni mates. Stolen
1966 Riley Kestrel - nice car in so many way but rusted like a Fiat.
1964 Morris Oxford...solid Farina stop gap with column change - 6 seater! Flogged for profit.
1966 Triumph 2000 - intermittent overdrive - toured Europe and then flogged for profit. My first car of the marque!
1965 Ford corsair auto - the most awful car Ive owned.
1972 Triumph Dolomite - still have it after selling it to a mate who wrote it off and resurrecting it years later.
1978 Triumph Spit 1500 - actually bought for girlfriend who is now wife of 21 years and will never be sold.
1977 Java green Spit - sold for profit!
1970 Volvo 145S -taken in part ex used to move house. Dreadful stromberge carbs ruined it. flogged at auction.
1979 Cavalier 2000GLS spotshatch. See Smifters comments. Great car we had for years. Still miss it and would buy another but where have they all gone? So much better than a Capri. Must have lost it to the VW GTI brigade I suppose.
1979 Vermillion Dolly Sprint - still have it nuff said.
1972 Dolomite - bought with crook engine now TR7 powered and driven by daughter.
1990 Renault 21 Turbo - bought at auction 3 months old for joke bid. Loved it but flogged on for serious profit. Wicked cossie eater. Buy one.
1986 Rangie TD - well we had it a long time but it wasnt that great in all honesty.
1988 Montego VDP EFi. Underated car really. Lost more in depreciation than anything esle Ive owned.
1990 Landie 110 TDi- much loved and still owned but it isnt really a car.
1986 Jaguar Sovereign. I know of no other car that goes down the road so well..total magic carpet. Love it.
1990 Citroen XM 24V - almost as much fun as the R21 Turbo but a real headache to maintain.
1994 Daimler Double Six - total hoot - another joke auction bid the week of 9/11 and flogged for serious profit 6 months later. Wife nearly divorced me. Buy one!
1972 Dolly - freebie in great shape now sons car and TR7 powered and o/d. Just had serious tart up at Gary's.
Probably my favourite car of all.
A pair of MGBGT's we are doing up to sell. I co own these and they are quite nice really.
Re: The Daytona - an explanation
A few years ago when I was rather better off, I was offered a Ferrari Daytona by a business contact. It was described as a good runner but in need of TLC (a bit tatty round the edges). It had tax and ticket and he wanted £30K.

I went in with a mate at 15 each. I had just sold my BMW so had £10k sloshing about and I borrowed the rest.

The car was solid but scabby, and needed a good tune/service/etc. So we gave the bodywork the Jod treatment, ditto the interior and sorted a service and a tune (just the six downdraught Webers). After that it looked a very presentable car and ran well.

My mate and I then took it in turns to pose around in it for about four months whereupon we decided it was time to move it on at a profit having ticked the "I owned a Ferrari Daytona, seventies supercar legend" box.

We did so, and made about £6k each for our trouble. It was subsequently resprayed, retrimmed and sold on for £75K!!!

Interestingly, my Dad at the time was completely against the whole enterprise and said we would lose our shirts never mind make any money. I have never been so pleased to have ignored his well meaning advice.

It was fantastic - a brute to drive and faster than anything else I have driven before or since. The noise alone was worth the money. I will never, ever forget it. If you ever get the chance to have a go please take it. You won't forget either....

Did you go to get a wing and come home with a whole car?
No...
...I bought the wing because the one in the pic of the car looks as if it has a dent on the front (the bit that's difficult to knock out)

The car will 'owe me' (to use Jonner's phrase) about £135 by the time I get it here...

Re: Time for me to come clean...
As Alan and I discussed just before I pulled away from Himley, NLJ194M was the car I bought here in Devon for about £975 while KLR was being prep'd for restoration. This car had the square number plate because the bloke I bought it off (Steve Blackmore I think) had fitted some really awful off road rectangular driving lights under the front bumper which part obscured the standard plate and was a mechanical dream, went like s... off a shovel (did Plymouth to the Duxford SODIT in 3.5 hours on the Sunday morning - hope there aren't any rozzers on this site!) although cosmetically could have benefitted from a bit of work but still very presentable. Sold it at Duxford to Andy Taylor for a grand - and I think he got a bargain. Was always keeping my beady out in case it appeared anywhere but devastated to hear about this really early cars plight. Hope someone rescues it and does it up - then lets me have another spin in it!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">
