Saxo VTR = 159g/km

Ferrari 360 Modena = 440g/km

mr saxo would end up paying more cos he uses a tank every night doing burnouts and racing around the local estate where as mr ferrari only goes out one weekend a year ( but uses the 2 mpg four wheel drive 25 ton people carrier to take the brats around the corner to skool , drives home then gets back in to drive to the shop which is next to the skool)

i think petrol tax is better sense than the disc. i will be soon having to tax 3 cars , one of which will only get used maybe 2 days per month.
Jonners you monkey!
All increasing road tax to get the Aldi shoppers off the road will lead to is.........
More of the nutters on the road with out Insurance!!!

(Tongue equally pressed in cheek!)

100 octane aviation is good, leaded too!

I would be all for scrapping road tax and paying at the pumps. But whichever party puts a president in number ten knows as well as us that they can not raise enough cash for their dinner parties etc by doing this.

What's wrong with Aldi? Many a bargain to be had there. Bought an excellent Stanley toolbox recently though it was badged Zag then underneath it said Stanley, half price too.

Avgas is usually about 102 RON but unless you live near an airfield pretty hard to get hold of.

Avgas...
is even more expensive than Bayford Thrust stuff.
I like Aldi burgers..

The only reason for keeping the existing road tax is to keep sub post offices going. Its their main source of revenue and is the ONLY defensible reason. That and the fact that some short sighted old grannie can check your Mot and insurance, which could of course run out next day ( I regularly arrange it so mine does to make the point) but my car be taxed for almost a year.

Gas tax is far better and is unavoidable. It would be better to do that and subsidise sub post offices, which could be done if it weren't privately owned.
chip fat
Am currently working on a project with a mate whereby we are converting his Citroen BX to run on vegetable oil. Technically of course he should be paying duty thus slightly missing the apparant environmental advantage of vegetable oil. However as it is more of a prototype he hasn't bothered.
Seems to go fine. Early tests on 90% oil with 10% regular diesel look promising. Only really works with old PSA diesel engines which are rough as hell. Don't try it with your nice new common rail diesel engines. Just want to try a bio-ethanol conversion next.
