I think I'd go for a challenger too. But also buy a rotten Interceptor and rip the 440 out of it...<img src=

I'd get a nice TR4 for 6k and a mint S1 Daimler Double 6 vdp.

(miniman, the guy I just got my Elise from had 3 XJR's on the drive that he sells. Really easy guy to deal with with good quality cars.)
next street above me it's in orange a very popular colour in those days its nice but not a particularly good one i'd like to see the bright work a little better but i think if i was going to keep it for ever i'd spend some cash on it (whishfull thinking about time to restore it with correct things )
forgot to say that tr6s were a nice car but i prefered a tr5irs bit more agricultural (engine)
did nearly buy a 350/500 cant think which one it was a guy working with me had a mate with one in his garage needed freeze plugs etc...been stuck in there for years did say i'd look at it turned out he'd got in contact with a guy from london? about parts etc prior to me seeing it and found out it was a bit rare heard it went back out to the us had very very low miles too shame could have had a bargin there

The best used-car buy in the USA right now as it pertains to classy British iron is, undoubtedly, the Jaguar XK8. They can be had for song over here. I'm talking around $15,000 or less for a clean, decent model with below average mileage. A good friend of mine just paid $20,000 for a 2002 XK8 convertible with the sport package, which has the navi system, big wheels and other "pimp" features. That's Hyundai money.
So, that's what I'd buy.
If I wasn't having to use a car for commuting, I'd be reaching for my chequebook to buy an XJR to replace my Daimler, which is getting a bit long in the tooth now. I've recently seen several six cylinder XJRs for sale in the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club mag for "Ford Escort" money, even early V8s seem to be quite cheap too. However, with petrol approaching a fiver a gallon, is it any wonder that these cars are priced so cheaply? <img src=

who spends more than 8k on a TR6 is dim...or after concours with the full package...either original minter or proper resto with full piccies.

A sorted stag costs about the same and is far nicer to live with.

13k to spend would have to result in an E-type of some sort...

I do like the 6 pot XJR's....what a bargain. But a late 6 liter XJ40 XJ12 or DDS is a snip at under 3k and totally wonderfull and the same engine in an X300 gives just about the perfect car...yours for around 6k for decent miles and full history. Bargain.
