What would You Buy???
The thread on Alun's old TR6 set me thinking.

I notice from eBay that the car is surging towards £13K already, with a couple of days still to go.

My opinions of TR6's are documented elsewhere so I do not need to rehearse them again. BUT, what a way to blow £13 grand!!!

I mean for goodness sake, that would buy three top class Sprints. Or A superb Sprint and an equally good GT6 and an equally good Spitfire for good measure. Or a nice Stag and a Sprint with a bit left over.

Or any number of Alfas, Lancias, plus British iron......

So, what would you buy?

For me, probably a sorted Sprint track car (and trailer ). A 1300FWD rally weapon, and a diesel Landie to tow them. Or maybe an 80's 911, or an Alfa Spider, or........

.....so many choices.

What's yours?

Re: What would You Buy???
Similar situation myself. Owned a BMW M635 for the last 7 years which has been practically rebuilt and was bought fairly cheaply. Always hankered after a sprint and bought a great sprint for average money last weekend. Not planning on selling the BM though.

13k for a classic car is alot of money. I have never spent more than 8k on buying any car. I'd never get it past the misses.

My plan worked out in that I have probably spent 13k in total on the two above cars but slowly!!!!!!. Sprint is to be uprated in the next 6-9 months.

If I turned up with a 13k classic car the wife would be the wife no more.

Doing it my way I don't think she realises the full picture.

Wifes, don't you just love them.

Re: What would You Buy???
Much as I disagree with Martins views of TR6s I do completely agree with the sentiment. I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on any car. Not a modern because of depreciation and not a classic because several classics is so much more fun and value for money.

I'm happy with what I have. In a hurry or up for a grin? Take Blue. Long boring journey? Take Orange (comfortable, has radio and good economy). And for those very rare occasions that I give a toss what people think of what I turn up in there's Little Blue. A fleet is just so much more practical and fun.

So what would I spend that sorta money on? Easy. Moving house to one with a garage and a decent drive. If we were talking the sort of figure this TR is likely to go for I'd do same and have enough left to fix up VA41 to replace Blue, complete Blues orginal mission as a historic rally tool and still have change to get my teeth well into the Spit.
I'd buy:

Triumph 1300 FWD, Triumph Toledo, Mk 4 Ford Escort 1600 Ghia, Austin A55 Cambridge ............ and I'd still probably have £11K spare

Difficult one.....
I`d have to have a Jaguar XJR, one of about 1996 vintage with the supercharged 6 pot, you gotta love big jags. BMW 2002 ti (have got a 2002 touring), rover SD1 vittesse. I think that would eat all of the 13k.

Hey Dollysteve,

I like your taste in Jaguars. I have a 1996 XJR, which I use to tow my race Sprint. Fantastic tow car and a great highway cruiser. There is not much that can match it as a tow car when hill climbing, I think that the 500+nm of torque has something to do with it.
Looking to buy an XJR myself in the not-too-distant future - prefer the V8 though, personally...

Re: Re:£13K
I was in the position of having that sort of money to spend on a car - sadly it wasn't really my money so I had to buy a new or nearly new car with it. I wanted to buy a Caterham but couldn't get approval from the boss!

But if I could have spent it on whatever I want it would have to be my bro-in-laws Cossie Mark 1 Escort and spend the change paying someone to finish my Sprint for me!
Scary XE powered 1974 Dolomite Sprint Trackday Experiment. Maybe someday soon

2002 Octavia VRS - 20 valves, leather, a turbo and 146mph - Czech it out!!

Re: Re:£13K
I can't find it on the 'bay Martin...

TR6: Much maligned by folk who have driven dogs (of which there were many) I surprised many such people by allowing them to drive mine; went like stink, a great noise and cornered (unusually apparently) as if it were on rails.

For £13k I would get a 'decent' TR6 and a 'decent' Series III Interceptor with a bit left over to fuel the Mopar!

...or maybe a Daimler Dart or V8 250 saloon...or maybe an early Vantage...Shelby 500...

Re: Re:£13K
Would probably go for a mint 1300fwd ( I do miss Gigi). I am also a Jag fan. Have had 3 XJ40's over the last 5 years. Plan to get another one next year or might try and get an early X300. Would also like to have a lovely Stag and a Jag 320G.

I'd spend the money fitting a huge V8 in to a Dolomite

nice saloon car would be a de-tomaso deuville sympathetic to jag's style and a good old 351v8
or a good 70s 454 vette for straight lines only not the best handling.. but got the best looks by far
