FWIW I would try and get the engine running in situ first.<br>
Drain the oil and water....take off rocker cover and look for obvious crud. If its bad then a strip down is a good idea so you may as well try and get the head off. If inside the rockers looks okay then change oil and filter, clean out fuel pump bowl, plumb in a radiator, connect up a gallon can of fresh optimax and go for it.<br>
Actually take the plugs out first and give it a good spin on the starter to circulate new oil and listen for any nasty noises. Then clean plugs in, ignition on and fire away. Then you can decide to change the whole lump if you want to a known quantity.<br>

From what youve described previously the bottom end was well sorted out.<br>

I think I'd give the engine off the yellow one a good flush through and turn it over and check it as Jonners suggests then swap it over. <br>

Have you heard it run at all? Do you know when it was built? And what sort of condition is your current bottom end?<br>
<br>
If its still good use it - Youll get just as much power from a std bottom end but its only a matter of time before something lets go if you start using the potential of that head/cam/carbs setup.

As the wiring and ignition switch has been completely knackered, I guess all I need to do is supply 12 volts to the LT coil and 12 volts to the starter motor to get this beast running.<br>
<br>
I would plan to start this from a standalone battery and not worry about alternator charging.<br>
<br>
Anything else I need to watch out for?<br>

I'd take a look at the wiring, and see where I could bypass the knackered bits first. Then again, I like playing with wiring...
