well I've just ordered 2 UJ's from Rimmers to do the rear prop. Hopefully these will come with needle bearings and spiders etc.

if this doesn't cure it, a large branch willl be taken to the car Basil stylee!

There is no bearing on a Sprint layshaft, it runs direct in the case. If its this you will not get the noise in fourth.

Disregard the gearbox as its a recon one! Why's that then? if it has only started since it went in then that is the first place I'd start looking!!

seb had a "recon" engine don't forget!

Alun,

it started well before the new box went in. That was one of the reasons why we changed the box. Apart from thinking it might have been a bearing, the box needed an overhaul as it was leaking badly.

I've ordered two UJ's for the prop(rear) as I believe when the needle bearings go, you get the same symptons........bad vibration and 'clunking' sounds. It could also be backlash at the diff but first thing first.

If it isnt....

the propshaft you could jack both rear wheels up, put on axle stands and run it in gear. That should help diagnose the problem.
